"It took three years for The Pharcyde to follow up on their debut release, Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde. Not that they didn't keep busy in that period with supporting slots for De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest as well as a successful spot on Lollapalooza's 1994 tour. Of course J-Swift had parted ways with the group just before the conclusion of the Bizarre Ride sessions. Rather than try to out an out replace Swift, production on Labcabincalifornia was handled by the Pharcyde's own Bootie Brown, Fatlip and Slimkid3 along with contributions from Diamond D, M-Walk and very notably the work of a recent arrival in LA, Jay Dee aka J Dilla. The resulting project, Labcabincalifornia, maybe calmer than the group's debut but it's no less warped with stand out cuts like the She Said, Drop, and Runnin'. Traffic Entertainment and The Bicycle Music Company are now proud to bring you the instrumentals of the entire project on this special double vinyl edition."

"Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde is, simply put, one of the most perfect albums in the history of recorded music regardless of genre. From the lyrical flow of Slimkid3, Bootie Brown, Imani and Fatlip to the cover art by Fuct the project is the embodiment of excellence start to finish. Musically, the foundation of this perfection is the production work of J-Swift. His use of jazz samples, phat beats and live instrumentation had the ultimate effect of 'creating their own sonic utopia', as NME put it. As such it's more than fitting that Pharcyde's Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde be released as an all instrumental outing. The song, featuring all four members Imani, Slimkid Tre, Bootie Brown and Fatlip, peaked at #55 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1995. There are four non-album versions of 'Runnin'', including the 'Jay Dee Extended Mix' and two non-album versions of 'Drop.' The song 'Drop' is best known for it's incredible, totally backwards video directed by the one and only Spike Jonze. The extended mix and instrumental version of the cut are included here.
