This is Montreal-native Stephen Beaupré's Wagon Repair debut. One half of Crackhaus, a long-time collaboration with Deadbeat, Stephen has released solo material on Musique Risquée, Mutek_Rec and ~scape. "Achaemenid" roams stridently with a tight kick, clangorous, melodic cascades, and rhythmic tones. Ethereal string pads and moaning atmospherics imply conflict, narrated by catchy vocals. A reverberant synth-line injects life into "Lotus Eaters," with vocal samples and melodic tones forming sonic structures around a deep tom and rattled hat. Totally intoxicating.
