RELEASE DATE: 11/15/2024
Dutch duo Dam Swindle appear on Aus Music's 200 series and two new house originals come with remixes from K-Lone and Chloe Robinson & DJ ADHD. Dam Swindle have been helping to define the underground house sound for a decade, not least with their Heist label. The pair deal in timeless, fad-free sounds that are rich with dance floor dynamics and hint at a love of everything from disco to tech and plenty in between. They are notorious crate diggers who have played the world's most cultured clubs, their recent track "Allright (Just A Tribute)" on Phonica's 20-year celebration has received widespread love by DJ's this summer on the festival circuit and now they offer up two more of their studio gems for their third full release on Aus. This EP is the second in a series of four releases from different artists to mark the 200th outing of Will Saul's influential Aus Music. It is an era-defining label that has platformed some of the scene's brightest stars way before they broke out. Since launching in 2006, the label has remained dedicated to releasing club-ready music with a cultured edge from deep and melodic house to the earliest bass- driven post-dubstep fusions. This EP kicks off with "The Last Time", a blissed-out deep house sound with impassioned vocal cries tugging at the heartstrings. Mellifluous synth daubs percolate through the mix to a captivating, feel- good effect. Next is "Come Back", an infectious house bubbler with gloopy synths and something of a garage shuffle in the kicks. It's fresh and packed with neon color that brims with soul. New school house and garage tastemaker and core Aus Music family member K-Lone steps up with a remix hot on the heels of his two-part EP series on the label. His version of "The Last Time" is typically deft as soft-focus chords swirl around prickly garage house beats. The distant vocal, the cavernous bass and the wistful feel all make it another classic. Last but not least, Chloé Robinson & DJ ADHD are frequent collaborators on labels like Fabric Originals as well as Chloé's Pretty Weird imprint where they serve up potent, bass-heavy sounds. Their version of "Come Back" is expertly stripped back. It teases and pleases with a blend of filthy low-end oscillations, slinky drums and tooting chord hooks that are effortlessly fun and effective.

This EP kicks off a run of four releases from different artists to mark the 200th outing of Will Saul's influential Aus Music. It is an era-defining label that has platformed some of the scene's brightest stars way before they broke out. Since launching in 2006, the label has remained dedicated to releasing club-ready music with a cultured edge from deep and melodic house to the earliest bass-driven post-dubstep fusions. Opener "Tropics" is a fully live disco workout created by some of New York's best session musicians. The perfect celebratory single kicks off the 200 series with irresistible bounce and funky basslines. Dancing keys overflow with feel-good vibes while the chords have subtle hints of a Marshall Jefferson classic. The stirring "Born Again" is a lush and sweeping groove packed with exuberant live musicianship, distant cosmic arps and splashing cymbals. Soaring up top are the beautifully pained and emotive vocals of Laura Roy, a Grammy-nominated talent who blends '70s folk and '90s R&B into her own style. After the instrumental version comes closer "Japanese Knives" with its paddy kick drums and organic hits, tumbling fills and heart-warming chord work. It's a classy house vibe for cosey and loved-up 'floors.

Space Dimension Controller returns to Aus Music with six tracks of superb cosmic adventure. Thie EP arrives as a six-track 12" including exclusive vinyl-only cut "Acid Funk Sequel." Space Dimension Controller is an intergalactic musical explorer. His sci-fi sounds paint technicolor pictures in widescreen. Whether crafting definitive albums like Love Beyond The Intersect on R&S, club-ready EPs for Aus and Running Back or dropping collections of unreleased tracks on his own Tiraquon Recordings, his work sounds futuristic yet nostalgic for the past. It is fueled by funk and crafted on synths, hardware, tape machines and various other imperfect tools that lend it a loveable character. His Final Quest EP is a "French-inspired" release, which is an influence that predates the Space Dimension Controller alias and goes back to Hamill's teenage years. It is also the last EP from his current studio before it is dismantled and moved to Amsterdam sometime this summer. From start to finish, this new EP showcases Hamill's ability to craft emotionally evocative melodies and genuinely absorbing soundtracks. Opener "Jet Free" is awash with filtered synths that are sugary sweet and underpinned by funky guitar riffs and laissez-faire grooves. The wonderful "Cryfaze" has rueful pads spiraling around sleek drums that bounce along next to supple neon harps, while "Tiraquon's Final Quest" is a bubbling and elastic rhythm run through with soft acid squelches and pixelated pads full of cosmic charm. "1 4 U" rides on heavier drums but is no less joyous thanks to the crystalline melodies and dreamy vocals that swell the heart. "Acid Funk Sequel" is another playful moon safari with buoyant bass patterns and snappy drum funk under ever-evolving melodic refrains and "Beyond2" closes down with forlorn, introspective melodies that ripple over heavy-hearted chords.

Wisdom Teeth co-founder K-Lone presents a deep, broken techno vibe on this EP, Catching Wild Pt. 2. Opener "Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah" is a deep and bubbly cut with dubbed-out rhythms and a one-vocal refrain that's looped, panned about the mix and doused in reverb to serve as a trippy hook. Further stabs, deft synth details, whirring pads and neon colors all add detail to this warm, dynamic sound. The fantastic "Elastick" is a tight and kinetic minimal kicker with gorgeously smeared pads. Fresh sound designs bring it to life next to lush background chords that layer in plenty of signature K-Lone color. "Shook" is a dubby and bouncy rhythm with rubbery bass and glitchy hits that hook you into a world of gloopy pads and heady cosmic ambience. Last of all, "Brake Root" keeps the good vibes coming, this time with a tumbling broken beat that makes you shake your body loose amidst balmy pads and beautiful melodic curlicues that ooze late-night soul. UK trailblazer K-Lone heads up the label Wisdom Teeth with fellow producer Facta and has released everything from club-primed garage to innovative home listening records. Whether cooking up kinetic beats and bouncy bass or soundtracking a lazy summer's afternoon with synthesized bird calls and lush marimbas, the London-bred artist is a proven studio wizard. Critical acclaim has come for both his Swells and Cape Cira albums, and now his Catching Wild EPs for Aus Music offer yet another portal into the colorful world of his idiosyncratic, signature sound.

Wisdom Teeth co-founder K-Lone is dropping two EPs on Aus Music: the first instalment nods to UKG and house flavors, while the second offers a deeper, broken techno vibe. "Give It Up" opens Part 1 with a bubbly rhythm and bassline that percolates through the woody, organic percussion. Lush pads and neon lines swirl skyward to silky and seductive effect as various other samples and daubs of color bring the groove to life. The heady "Wait 4 U" is a textbook K-Lone house cut with low swinging bass, sultry sax stabs and molten R&B samples that get the juices going next to warm, diffused synth lines. On the flip, "What I Want" ups the pace but keeps it deep and smooth with rubbery kicks and gooey bass overlaid with soft-edged chord stabs that will pump the floor. Lastly, "Own Way" closes down with a tumbling bassline that takes you deeper as muted vocal sounds and glowing chords hook you into an infectious groove suited to the most intimate dancefloors. UK trailblazer K-Lone heads up the label Wisdom Teeth with fellow producer Facta and has released everything from club-primed garage to innovative home listening records. Amy Dabbs and Athlete Whippet deliver a perfectly crafted journey through house music with Into You on Aus Music. The duo's different yet wholly complementary musical backgrounds -- Amy Dabbs bringing her extensive experience as a DJ & electronic music producer, and Athlete Whippet with his background as an instrumentalist & live band musician -- have created a winning combination on Into You EP. The product of which is an intricately composed, highly musical suite of tracks produced to perfection for the dancefloor. Having met for the first time at Cinthie's Elevate store in early 2021 for her DJ Kicks launch party, the compilation featuring one of Dabbs' earlier tracks, Amy Dabbs & Athlete Whippet stayed in touch, which culminated in the decision to start working together in the studio in their shared hometown of Berlin. Amy Dabbs has released a string of lauded 12"s since her 2020 debut, including her latest highly acclaimed EP on Shall Not Fade, in addition to collaborating with Coco Bryce, launching her own imprint Dabbs Traxx last year, and featuring regularly on BBC Radio1 Dance. Athlete Whippet, headed up by Robin Braum, have delivered a myriad of esteemed releases across Toy Tonics, Rhythm Section and Tartelet, which have earned heavy support from Pete Tong, Jamz Supernova and Tom Ravenscroft, to name a few. Teaming up for the first time here, Amy Dabbs & Robin Braum deliver a fiery three-tracker for Will Saul's Aus Music, covering a variety of moods across the versatile EP. Kicking off the A-side is 'Deep In Your Love', with swirling pads and emotive strings tangling around a tear-jerking vocal refrain, which make for a highly moving opener. A2, 'Into You,' continues the emotional journey with lively percussion, subby basslines, and sensuous vocal samples overlaid with luscious analogue chords played out on the Juno 106. On the flip, 'Milkshake' closes out proceedings with a glorious blend of anthemic hands-in-the-air piano riffs and deep acid grooves. This track is a surefire summer hit, set to ignite airwaves and the dancefloor in equal measure.

Otik drops the four-track Xoul Trap EP on Will Saul's Aus Music. Otik, aka Ashley Thomas, has been steadily making himself known as one of the finest exponents of leftfield UK club music since his debut in 2013 through a string of heavy releases on the likes of Midland's Intergraded, Martyn's 3024, and his own Solar Body imprint. Arriving now on Aus Music, the London-based DJ/producer brings a set of atmospheric, breakbeat-laden techno tracks for his first appearance on the label. "Xoul Trap" kicks off the A-side with moody vocal chops, emotive pads, and thunderous kicks combining to form a hair-raising late-night affair. Following is the shuffling "Temptress", which sees sharp and detailed percussion fuse with dusty chords and speaker-rattling subs. On the flip, "Inertia" begins with a pumping 4/4 pattern as washed-out synths reverberate alongside shining plucks and warm, inviting low end. "Unorthodox" sees shimmering leads swirl around choral samples and UK Funky-tinged drum hits, rounding out yet another standout record from both Otik and Aus Music.

Mark Hawkins readies Venn Diagram album for Aus Music. Mark Hawkins's early releases on labels such as Djax Up Beats and Ugly Funk lit flares in the world of underground techno, with a sense of humor and tougher-than-thou sonic palette enforced via his jacking live sets. Across the following decades, Mark has delivered razor sharp cuts that encompass pretty much anything that has an electronic heart -- leaving his own unique trail for others to follow via his work for labels as diverse as Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Sonic Mind, Mistress Recordings, Houndstooth, and Aus. With his latest album, it feels like Mark has pushed ahead with a change of direction he started with 2021's The New Normal. Venn Diagram carries on this journey into uncharted lands; molten, distorted drum assaults weave around glistening melodies, kitchen sink soul glides below fractured sound pools. Opener "Verblex Oscillos" immediately demands your attention grabbing, with a so-happy-it's-sad melody spiraling around a cascade of tough-as-fuck dance floor destroying beats, along with the urgent combination of strings, acid, and Chicago-tough electro beats on "Isolated". Other cuts on the album share a similar approach, the restless energy of "Maladayfun Friction" derives from a fusion of skittering drums and deranged synths and the dreamy super saw pads and plaintive vocal of "Still Have Time" espouses a kind of wasted elegance, roaming the city nightlife in a Gucci dress and Doc Martin boots. "Nlasckhdsjk" and "Frederikalstublieft" propel forward with such a sleek and effervescent aesthetic, recalling fast drives along picturesque European highways or heady take-offs to unknown urban territories. The aesthetic becomes more elegant on the album's centerpoint tracks "Rebula Conundrum" and "Nlasckhdsjk", where optimistic bleeps, bass and 707 drums underpin jazzy chords and soaring leads. Other tracks show the arc of Mark's direction of travel, with soulful vocals that share a well of deep-rooted optimism that was so evident on his breakthrough 2016 Social Housing album. "L.O.V.E." breaks into post-Sophie territory with a catchy modulated vocal joyfully two-stepping across to the nightclub bar and "How Do I Know" providing a heart-rending torch song for 6am kicking-out-time refugees to help them find their way back home.

Damiano von Erckert's The Past The Present The Future lands on Aus Music. Not content with defining the sound of minimal techno in the nineties, Robert Hood has more recently fine0tuned his own gospel-tinged take on the genre. It comes under the Floorplan moniker, the genesis of which is said to have come to him when awakened by a late-night vision. Since 2016, it has been a collaborative duo between Hood and daughter Lyric, and never fails to lead to religious experiences on the dancefloor. With roots in the Detroit techno scene in which Hood first emerged, Floorplan's sound is embellished with the heartfelt emotions and unbridled passions of Chicago house music. It is heavy and analog and filled with vigor thanks to the expert drum programming and ever rising sense of euphoria that comes from the well sculpted synths. But it also speaks to the heart and soul and has done since first standout cut "We Magnify His Name". The pair's endless quest for the perfect groove continued through albums like 2013's Paradise (MPM 016CD/LP) -- which spawned anthemic singles like "Let's Ride", "Baby Baby", and the massive "Never Grow Old" -- and 2016's Victorious (MPM 028CD/LP). The same year saw Hood's daughter Lyric officially become part of the project. Since then they have taken Floorplan to endless headline shows at high profile clubs and festivals everywhere from New York City to Ibiza, London to Amsterdam. Their electric sets leave crowds feeling uplifted, spiritually awakening and totally in awe. Part of the success of Floorplan is the combination of Robert's old school excellence and Lyric's new school innovation: their music, with its big chords and even bigger vocal samples, could be 30 years old or fresh from the pressing plant, such is its universal sense of appeal. It is rare to make music as stripped back yet emotionally enriched as Floorplan, but this pair do it with ease and a firm focus on durable grooves. Functional but full of form, tense but atmospheric, loopy but ever evolving, Floorplan truly transcend the dance music spectrum. Features Carol Otis.

Recent months have seen Cinthie build her own studio and dedicate her time to carefully crafting music. Trust is a product of this time spent and marks the next phase. "Trust" is fuelled by an infectious marimba-style percussive melody, bright tension-building strings and a bumpy bass hook. "Lost At Sea" employs a loosely-flowing organic drum groove, jazzy Rhodes chords and resonant moog style synth licks, while "Hip Swing" closes with up-tempo drums at the forefront whilst murky bass reverberations flow in the depths.
