CRDS 052EP

DJ and producer duo La Vie C'est Facile fuse electro, instrumental hip hop, bass music, techno, and jungle into a brooding masterpiece of disjointed and distorted beats, drawing plenty of elements from grime while pushing those boundaries. "Racer Z" drops metallic and ghetto ambience with a wooden, chunky bass. "Casino" elevates the mood with a graceful, twinkling melody gently melded with grimey beat patterns, snapping claps, and a heavy sub-bass. "Adrenaline" pushes its way across terror and horror soundscapes with a menacing bass prowl, while "White Cobra" injects twisted experimental sounds into incredible beats. "Europium" mixes cold melodies with crisscrossing drums.

From the first bars of the intro track "Thot" you feel like you're being pulled under by a powerful current. You only surface once the outro track, "Canines", comes to a full stop. What's unique about this EP is that these songs are amalgams of beautiful noise. These songs are like Ad Reinhardt black-on-black paintings. The third EP from Gaspard de La Montagne is certain to find its way into late night/early morning sets of that breed of DJs who love their sound deep; but it's also just as gratifying as a headphone-listening experience.

With her luminously warm debut EP, KRSNA, Grace Core offers up a provocative, high-energy style blended with possessed chanting, modern pop, post-rave, and hypnotic trance. These elements come together to occupy a remarkably weird place all her own. Taking cues and hints from pop-inspired releases, KRSNA slowly progresses from atmospheric and dreamy, uplifting melodies to increased tempos with powerful, lilting synths, addictive pounding, and relentless drum kicks. It showcases a deconstructed, panoramic set of tracks that shimmer with confidence and wonder. The result is focused and coherent record that flows with a conceptual ease, leaving the listener completely fulfilled.

Gaspard de La Montagne follows his highly acclaimed 2013 debut, Pôle, with Stallion, featuring two curiously optimistic yet hesitant sculptures of techno hybrids that wade near the deep end and are driven by well-endowed low-end and contemplative melodies. From a genuinely open-minded generation with incredibly eclectic taste, Gaspard de La Montagne brings you the best of it all as a mess of inspiring cross-pollination. A must-have!

Jura, the sophomore full-length from the Swiss duo Larytta, is a galvanizing synthesis of essential grooves and effervescent melodies. It took years to finish the record! Christian Pahud and Guy Meldem spent this time carefully calibrating their songwriting to achieve what could be called the golden mean, i.e. the perfect balance between radio-friendly sound and club functionality. The result is a collection of songs that are instantly accessible yet wholly unpredictable. They feel familiar because they were crafted by seasoned musicians who, over the years, have mastered the science of fundamental swing and melody. The album is full of clever and tasteful references: Africa, the Middle East, the dusty Western '70s, and the white lines '80s all shine through at different points of this sonic journey. The production is chunky, juicy, warm, and analog. The lyrics are witty and even sometimes downright funny. The song titles testify to this quality: "Osama Obama," "Love Love Banana," "Broken Leg Theory," "Les Bambous" -- come on! Without a doubt, Jura is a beautifully idiosyncratic world, complete and stand-alone.

"This conceptual split EP links San Francisco producers Mochipet and BloodySnowman to create a stunning and crazy four-tracker EP capturing the atmospheres of old-school massive rave music. Mochipet has made his name with productions for labels like Bpitch Control, Tigerbeat6, Schematic and his own Daly City imprint, also home to BloodySnowman's acclaimed self-titled debut album. On 'Electro 888,' Mochipet emphasizes the strongest elements of his music aesthetics with massive drum kick, dumb melodies, and bumpy rhythms, while BloodySnowman's flipside 'Neon Wizard Championship' serves up a fine slice of psychedelic 8-bit electronics. Additionally, each artist provides a remix of the other's track. As a common space for two electro-genius minds, this is an unprecedented battle of whistles and irresistible uncoordinated movement."

"'Not since Byrne and Eno 25 years ago have two minds captured the art of tape sampling so effectively as Starting Teeth do here." --XLR8R. Originally released in Switzerland in February, Starting Teeth is a collaboration project between electronic producers Childe Grangier and Nathan Jonson, aka Hopen & Hrdvsion, who together represent Pacific and Atlantic united in the quest of doing their thing freely. Canadian Nathan Jonson is better known under the pseudonym Hrdvsion. With several killer EPs on Wagon Repair (run by none other than his brother Matthew), ItIsWhatItIs and Plak, remix credits for the likes of Dominik Eulberg, Milanese and Hot Hot Heat to name a few, Hrdvsion has forged a reputation in the electronic and techno scene on a worldwide level. French producer Childe Grangier, known as Hopen, released the critically-acclaimed album We Are Singing For Hurrays on Arbouse, praised by international medias, as well as numerous EPs on labels like Mental Groove and Plak. To not do what they can do, Grangier & Jonson have joined forces to create some next century haunted dancefloor sounds for twisted leg groovers, using a free combination of sounds collected on virtual worldwide adventure, featuring guests including Danuel Tate of Cobblestone Jazz and Oliver Mental Groove. What makes the Starting Teeth project so fresh is their unique and futuristic vision and execution of electronic music, with their special mixture of free -- electronica, humorous mental techno, and breaks and cuts, creating an imaginative and groundbreaking style which will break your ankles if you try dancing to it."
