The Guerssen label is based in Catalonia, Spain, and has been in business since 1996. Their growing catalog is filled with reissues of some of the best psychedelic, folk and progressive titles from the late '60s to early '80s, combining well-known titles with some of the most unknown, obscure records in the worldwide scene. Baris Manço, Factory, Merrell Fankhauser (Fapardokly, HMS Bounty), Barry Dransfield, Tree People, and Dave Bixby are some of the artists represented, and there's both vinyl LP and CD versions of most of their titles.

Beyond rare private press album from 1974, a fantastic mix of progressive rock with acid-folk, spaced-out psychedelia and cool conceptual / soundtrack vibe. Pete Fine is a virtuoso acoustic and electric guitarist and also a self-taught composer and orchestrator. After playing with psychedelic hard-rock trio FLOW in the early '70s in New York, Pete, influenced by classical composers like Anton Bruckner, started to focus on his 12-string guitar, composing music in a symphonic style. On A Day Of Crystalline Thought was his first solo album, self-released in 1974 as a private, home-made edition of 100 copies, now impossible to find. It was recorded using classical/rock musicians plus a chamber orchestra from Harlem. It features 12-string guitars, electric guitars, timpani, string sections, French horns, flute, piano, organ, drums with early digital delays, female vocal harmonies. Includes digital download card.

Formed in Blackpool in the late '60s, Heavy Rain was a "heavy progressive blues" band who shared stage with big names like Hawkwind, Pink Fairies, and Caravan. In 1973, now reduced to a power-trio (Geoff Carter on lead guitar/vocals, Oggy Hargreaves on bass, and Bernie Worsley on drums), they went to London and registered an album which was never released at the time but a few metal acetates were made. Only one copy is actually known of this monster rarity. 100% underground psychedelic hard-rock with heavy distorted fuzz-wah guitars and delay/echo effects. Seven original songs plus a spaced out Pink Floyd cover. Comes with download card which includes three unreleased studio tracks from 1972.

First ever band-sanctioned reissue of this legendary Pebbles garage-psych 45 from 1967. William Penn Fyve, aka William Penn & His Pals, were a regular presence on the early Bay Area scene, opening for the likes of Jefferson Airplane, Paul Revere & the Raiders, and Them. Their line-up included lead singer/organist Gregg Rolie, later of Santana/Journey. In 1966 they recorded their lone single, Swami/Blow My Mind, for the Thunderbird label. The A-side (written by guitar player Mike Shapiro and famous for being included on Pebbles-The Acid Gallery) is early acid-punk with fuzzed-out raga guitars and hilarious lyrics about a guru. The flipside is an energetic garage-punk number with swirling Vox organ and a fuzz rave up á la Yardbirds.

The Flow was a psychedelic hard-rock power-trio formed in New York by Pete Fine, Monte Farber and Steve Starer. It was the early '70s in NYC, the pre-glam/punk/new wave days, when Flow (who rehearsed next room to a band called Wicked Lester, later known as KISS) decided to start playing music without limits, developing their musical horizons. Their sound was based on hard-rock and heavy-fuzz guitars but adding psych/experimental touches. In 1972 they self-released a private album, The Flow's Greatest Hits, featuring their own songs. This is now one of the mega rarities and holy grails of the first psychedelic era. First officially reissued by the Shadoks label in the early 2000s and out of print for many years, Guerssen presents a new deluxe reissue. Original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve plus OBI. Includes insert with liner notes and photos.

Magical UK folk-rock with psychedelic/West Coast influences. It was originally self-released by Mandy Morton in 1978, after the two Spriguns albums for Decca. "Magic Lady" was dedicated to Sandy Denny, who had just passed away that same year. It was available on black vinyl with a few copies (approximately 20) pressed on blue color, and both versions are very hard to find today. Terrific songwriting, superb musicianship and beautiful vocals. Recorded at Spaceward Studios, produced by Mike Kemp in conjunction with Mandy, mastered at Abbey Road and featuring guest appearances by Tim Hart (Steeleye Span) and Graeme Taylor (Gryphon, Albion Band). Original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve + OBI; sourced from the original masters; insert with liner notes by Mandy Morton and photos. RIYL: Sandy Denny, Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Trees, Jefferson Airplane... "... one of the best things Mandy Morton did, perhaps the very best... " --Patrick Lundborg (Galactic Ramble) "... one of the most atmospheric releases in British rock-pop of the era. Indeed, this masterpiece is the equal of those electric folk classics from earlier in the decade, like Spirogyra, Fuchsia, Shelagh McDonald and Stone Angel..." --Ben Sumner

A must to anyone into '60s British beat and psychedelia, here's the complete recordings of pre-Yes band The Syn, featuring Chris Squire and Peter Banks. Including their sought-after mod-psych singles for Deram ("Grounded", "14 Hour Technicolour Dream", "Flowerman") plus a treasure trove of rare '60s recordings, including a five-minute rehearsal excerpt of stage favorite "The Gangster Opera", an earlier recording of "Flowerman", a pre-Deram acetate of the unissued-at-the-time "Merry-Go-Round", two tracks by pre-Syn band The Selfs, and more. Also including are a couple of 1974 bonus tracks from post-Syn project, Narsquijack. Led by singer Steve Nardelli, The Syn formed in 1966 initially as a mod/Tamla band. They soon embraced psychedelia and flower-power with some legendary theatrical shows during their Marquee Club residency. After a string of singles for the Deram label, the band slowly evolved into legendary prog band Yes. Hard cardboard sleeve with artwork by Sara Gossett; remastered sound; insert with detailed liner notes by David Wells with an introduction by Phil Collins (a huge fan during their Marquee days), plus rare photos/memorabilia. "This vinyl package concentrates on the original Syn, determined to make their mark as the Tamla/mod scene melted into the balmy, barmy days of flower power." --David Wells

Prog-psych/acid-folk lost classic from 1969 by this short-lived London trio. Now lovingly reissued on vinyl with fantastic remastered sound and including insert with rare photos/memorabilia and detailed liner notes by Steve Krakow, aka Plastic Crimewave. Named after a Cannonball Adderley track, Synanthesia formed thanks to a Melody Maker ad placed in 1968 by guitarist/vibes/vocalist Dennis Homes, answered by Jim Fraser (who played sax, oboe, and flute) and Leslie Cook (an Incredible String Band fan on bongos, violin and mandolin). With their particular blend of folk, jazz, and psychedelia, the trio played all the key underground venues and clubs, sometimes alongside top acts like Floyd, King Crimson, or Fairport Convention. Their sole album was recorded at Sounds Technique studio in Chelsea (which was where Pink Floyd were recording their albums at the time) and subsequently released by RCA. The cover featured the trio climbed onto a tree at the same park where the Beatles filmed their "Strawberry Field" promo film. Despite the good reviews and the support of DJs like John Peel, the album was considered too far out and psychedelic and eventually flopped, only to be re-discovered several decades later by acid-folk fans and collectors. Original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve + OBI; insert with liner notes by Plastic Crimewave and rare photos/memorabilia. RIYL: Incredible String Band, Syd Barrett, Comus, Heron, King Crimson, Subway... "A cool and unique album whose cover accurately promises strange fruits of the earth" --Aaron Milenski (Galactic Ramble)

One of the holy grails of heavy psychedelia, originally released in 1969 by this Canadian band. Basement garage-psych meets heavy rock. Echoing vocals, crashing drums, ultra-raw distorted guitar. Bent Wind formed in Toronto in 1969. Discovered by producer Merv Buchanan while they played at a 12-hourPop Festival in York, he signed them to his Trend label. A single was soon released, followed by the Sussex album in 1969. Titled after the street where the band had a rehearsal space in a building where local hippies and freaks hang out, Sussex was released housed in a cover designed by guitar player Gerry Ribas. According to band member Marty Roth, no more than 200 copies were pressed, making one the most sought-after psych albums ever. Original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve; remastered sound; insert with liner notes by Klemen Breznikar (It's Psychedelic Baby) and photos. "For intense guitar action I never tire of LPs like Bent Wind" --Paul Major. "One of the last gasps of garage-psychedelia" --Richie Unterberger (All Music Guide). "Monstrous heavy psych from Toronto. Great plodding songs and recorded-in-a-barn ambience" --Wayne Rogers (Twisted Village).

Orang-Utan were in fact a London based band called Hunter, featuring vocalist Terry "Nobby" Clarke (of psych-pop legends Jason Crest), guitar player Mick Clarke, drummer and songwriter Jeff Seopardi, and bass player Paul Roberts. They recorded their sole album in 1971 at DeLane Lea studios. In a bizarre twist of events, their producers/managers ran with the tapes to the US, where they placed the album on Bell Records under a new band name: Orang-Utan, without telling any of the band members. A lost classic of blazing, early hard rock with minor psychedelic hangover vibes, a twin-guitar attack, and waves of fuzz/wah, along with powerful vocals. Think Leaf Hound, Budgie, Bang, Sir Lord Baltimore, Hard Stuff... Legit reissue done in co-operation with the original band members. Insert with liner notes telling the bizarre story of the band for the first time, and rare photos; hard cardboard sleeve + OBI; includes download card. "Quintessentially British hard-rock, transforming the blues in a way American bands rarely did, and with a kind of vocal intensity that compares to Free, Humble Pie, et al" --Aaron Milenski (Galactic Ramble).

Originally released in 1971, the Fuchsia album is one of the best examples of British progressive and psychedelic folk-rock, full on inventive arrangements, and songwriting. Produced by David Hitchcock (Caravan, Mellow Candle). Here's a long overdue vinyl reissue. Fuchsia was formed by a group of Exeter University students. They were Tony Durant (previously of psych band Louise) on acoustic/electric guitars and vocals; Michael Day on bass and Michael Gregory on drums plus the three-piece classical ensemble of Vanessa Hall-Smith (violin, backing vocals); Janet Rogers (violin, backing vocals) and Madeleine Bland (cello, piano, harmonium, backing vocals). Signed to Pegasus Records (the "progressive" branch of B&C Records), Fuchsia recorded their self-titled album at Sound Techniques studio with producer David Hitchcock (Caravan, Mellow Candle, Genesis, Camel). The main inspiration for the album was Tony Durant's readings of Mervyn Peake's gothic novels such a Titus Groan and its fictional character Lady Fuchsia Groan. Like some of their contemporaries (Comus, Mellow Candle) Fuchsia only started gaining recognition in the following decades, thanks to fans of obscure psychedelic folk. Today, Tony Durant leads a new version of Fuchsia, still playing and recording. Newly remastered sound; original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve; Insert with liner notes and rare photos/memorabilia; repro of the rare promo insert. "Recommended to fans of bands like Spirogyra and String Driven Thing" --Aaron Milenski (Galactic Ramble)

Formed in 1966 around lead singer Richard Shirman, The Attack were the ultimate freakbeat/psychedelic band. Guerssen Records present a new, definitive edition of their famous Final Daze recordings, focusing on strictly 1967-1968 stuff with John Cann as main songwriter (plus a never-before-on-vinyl track from '69, taken from a rare acetate), unlike previous editions that included early and post-Attack unrelated recordings. The result is a killer UK psych sounding album featuring the impressive guitar of John Cann (Andromeda, Atomic Rooster) and it's the closer we can get to what the long rumored to exist Attack's Roman God Of War unreleased LP could have sounded like. Including the classic mod-psych anthem "Magic In The Air" (dropped by their record label Decca for "being too heavy"), their unreleased monster hard-psych 45 Feel Like Flying/Freedom For You, the killer title track, the pre-Andromeda demos of "Too Old" and "Go Your Way", and more! Includes insert with liner notes by Jon "Mojo" Mills (Shindig!) and rare photos. "Inhabiting a region of the sonic solar system somewhere between the Creation and the Small Faces, the Attack languished in comparative obscurity back in their day, only to be recognized decades later as one of the most exciting bands of the era." --Mike Stax (Ugly Things)

LP version. Orange vinyl. Reissue, originally released in 1969. One of the key albums when talking about psychedelic hard-rock and early proto-metal. Featuring the great John Du Cann (The Attack, Atomic Rooster, Hard Stuff) on guitar plus Mick Hawksworth (Fuzzy Duck, Alvin Lee) on heavy bass plus the powerful drumming of Ian McLane (Neat Change, Ray Owen's Moon). Andromeda was formed during the final days of Du Cann's previous band The Attack, when he decided to go in a full heavier and proggier musical direction. Recruiting his friend/roommate Mick Hawksworth on bass plus drummer Jack McCulloch (of One In A Million, soon to be replaced by Ian McLane), the power-trio was born. After initial interest from John Peel (Dandelion) and Kit Lambert (Track Records), Du Cann decided to go with a major label, RCA, who offered him the chance to self-produce their first album. Recorded at Advision Studios, the impressive Andromeda debut was released in 1969, housed in a sleeve designed by John with photos by Gered Mankowitz. But despite receiving excellent reviews and the band playing lots of gigs (some of them billed above bands like Black Sabbath), RCA didn't know what to do with such a heavy rock band. Tired of the lack of promotion and support, John accepted an offer to join Atomic Rooster... but that's another story. Remastered sound; original artwork in hard cardboard laminated sleeve; insert with liner notes and photos/memorabilia. "... Acid-folk fans rejoice! God's Eye is the second album by San Francisco based psych-folk musician Walker Phillips. It was recorded in the best '60s-70s tradition using only analog tape and vintage instruments. According to Walker, "it contains some of the best songs I've written." The first side is a suite of pleasant, delicate songs of pure psychedelic-folk bliss that recall Arthur Lee Harper or Donovan at times, while side two is a full-blown psychedelic/jazz/experimental single track inspired by Miles Davis's Bitches Brew, meticulously tape-spliced from about one hour of improvisation. It wanders somewhere between Stockhausen, Pink Floyd, and The Grateful Dead. RIYL: Donovan, Incredible String Band, Kaleidoscope, Arthur Lee Harper, Marc Bolan, Pink Floyd...

Recorded at the now famous Liam Watson's Toe Rag Studios (White Stripes, Tame Impala, Billy Childish), The Sidelong Glances of a Pigeon Kicker was the third album by British pop-psychers Bronco Bullfrog. For a band clearly influenced by late '60s/early '70s sounds, to be surrounded by vintage sixties equipment felt like a dream. As bass player Louis Wiggett recalls: "...the general 'old school' approach lent itself to our belief (probably a desire) that we sounded like some obscure noisy pop band who'd recorded one 45 for Immediate, and then one for Deram, and then a final one for Hit-Ton Schallplatten, all within three months in late 1966." Here you'll find the classic Bronco sound (inventive songwriting, memorable hooks, three-part harmonies, hard guitars) mixed with cool studio experimentation in the best '60s style (tape phasing, piano strings played with plectrums). Including iconic songs like "Barnaby Slade", "Octopus", "Look at Me", "Sunday". Originally released by Spanish label Mushroom Pillow in 2002 and out of print for many years, here's a welcomed vinyl reissue. Original artwork; Insert with liner notes, lyrics and photos. RIYL: Kinks, Badfinger, Hollies, Who, Move, Raspberries. "... vintage sounding technicolor power-pop..." Garwood Pickjon (Popdiggers)

First-ever vinyl release of the long rumored 1969 studio album (plus related acetate and 45 only tracks) from pre-Hotlegs/10cc duo Godley & Creme, during their days as Frabjoy And Runcible Spoon. Classic UK late '60s psychedelic/folk/pop sound recorded at Advision Studios with support from future 10cc colleagues Graham Gouldman and Eric Stewart. In mid-1969, legendary British R&B/psychedelic entrepreneur Giorgio Gomelsky signed two Manchester-based art students, renaming them Frabjoy And Runcible Spoon. Envisaging the pair as a British Simon & Garfunkel, Gomelsky recorded an LP with them for release on his Marmalade label. A pre-LP single appeared, but sadly the album's release was aborted. 53 years later, Grapefruit Records released on CD this missing piece of the pre-10cc jigsaw puzzle. Now Guerssen Records present a vinyl version. RIYL: Pete Dello, Graham Gouldman, Bee Gees, Simon & Garfunkel, Beatles, Rubble and Fading Yellow comps. Insert with liner notes by David Wells and rare photos/memorabilia. "... fine and imaginative pop with a psychedelic edge that's a treat for fans of '60s sounds..." --AllMusic

LP version. "Hawkwind, Jefferson Airplane, and Tull all mixed together!" "the precursor to the entire 'The Cramps - Bad Music For Bad People'..." "predates the White Stripes by 20 years!" "this reminds me of early Kurt Vile demos in areas..." "sounds like something Jack White would do now" These are some of the comments you can find on YouTube by people who have just discovered Oliver's private press masterpiece Standing Stone (GUESS 065CD/175LP). That gives you an idea of how unique and ahead of its time Oliver's music is. Recording all by himself at a remote farm in Wales (within hailing distance of the real Standing Stone in the Preseli Hills, Pembrokeshire) and assisted by his brother Chris (a BBC engineer at that time) Oliver self-released in 1974 Standing Stone, now a cult album, reissued on Guerssen last year. Fans of Standing Stone will be blown away when they hear Stone Unturned, a previously unreleased second Oliver album, recorded also in 1974 at the farm and assisted by brother Chris. Performed by Oliver using a single mic, guitars and various effects devices, this is in the same vein as Standing Stone but even more loose and raw. Highly recommended to any acid folk/psych blues fan. Previously unreleased album from 1974 released for the first time. Master tape sound; insert with liner notes and photos; digital download card. "... anyone with a feel for psychedelic guitar, acid folk and mysticism could not deny that Oliver's work is unique in its own breath-taking way, an offering from the deepest point of his being."
