The Guerssen label is based in Catalonia, Spain, and has been in business since 1996. Their growing catalog is filled with reissues of some of the best psychedelic, folk and progressive titles from the late '60s to early '80s, combining well-known titles with some of the most unknown, obscure records in the worldwide scene. Baris Manço, Factory, Merrell Fankhauser (Fapardokly, HMS Bounty), Barry Dransfield, Tree People, and Dave Bixby are some of the artists represented, and there's both vinyl LP and CD versions of most of their titles.

Originally issued as a 12" mini-album in 1986, Tyrnaround's Colour Your Mind has become a touchstone of 1980s neo-psychedelia and almost certainly one of the best records of the second psychedelic era. Influenced by classic '60s British psychedelia, it was also inspired by The Dukes of Stratosphear's "25-O-Clock" and perhaps exceeds that record's trip factor with the acid-infused title track -- featured on Amorphous Androgynous Wizards of Oz compilation, and also famously covered by Vibravoid -- blending searing acid fuzz guitar, swirling keyboards, surreal lyrics, and sumptuous early Floyd-like harmonies. Now expanded to a full-length LP, including all the bands singles as well as the rare Freakbeat Magazine 45 "Paragon-Smythe" (featuring the never released before unedited version), this could be seen as Tyrnaround's perfect debut album. Trippy '60s-styled psychedelia from Australia. Comes in '60s UK styled backflaps sleeve; includes insert with unseen photos and a full history of the band by Richard Allen (Freakbeat, Delerium, Shindig!); Includes download card which includes rare demo and live tracks.

Guerssen Records present a reissue of Miguel Abuelo & Nada, originally released in 1975. A stunning blend of psychedelia, hard-rock, and prog-folk courtesy of Miguel Ángel Peralta, aka Miguel Abuelo, the legendary Argentinean rock pioneer. Recorded and released only in France in 1975, featuring some top Argentinean musicians such as killer guitar player Daniel Sbarra. Miguel Abuelo was a musician, poet and singer from Buenos Aires, Argentine. During the '60s, he was the leader of early psychedelic band Los Abuelos de la Nada, who released a highly sought-after 45 in 1968. In the early '70s, Miguel, a free spirit who left Argentina for Europe and ended up busking in Paris. There, he formed a band called Nada featuring guitar player Daniel Sbarra and other expat Argentinean musicians. Supported by their producer, Moshé Naïm, who was fascinated with Miguel's personality and voice, they registered in France their only album, recorded circa 1973 but actually released in 1975 on Moshé's own label, just when the band had decided to part ways. Housed in a beautiful gatefold cover depicting Miguel in full hippie-fashion along with his little child Gato Azul, Miguel Abuelo & Nada is simply one of the best Argentinean rock albums ever recorded. Cleary influenced by bands like Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, and the like, Miguel and Daniel managed to create a very unique sound, powerful yet delicate, highlighted by Miguel's heartfelt vocals (sometimes treated as just another instrument), outstanding guitar playing by Daniel (listen to him doing one of the early known examples of proto-metal tapping on "Tirando Piedras Al Río"), well-crafted songs and deep, poetic lyrics. The album was recorded at a state-of-the-art studio located in the countryside and was carefully produced: electric and acoustic guitars, bass, drums, flute, keyboards (including Moog), cello, violin. Sadly, the release date kept getting delayed, the band had to go on tour without the album in the street and when it was finally released, Miguel and Daniel had decided to take separate ways. During the '80s, Miguel obtained mainstream success in Argentine until his death in 1988. Miguel Abuelo & Nada is now widely regarded worldwide as a legendary, cult album. Master tape sound. Original artwork in gatefold sleeve; includes insert with lyrics, rare photos, and liner notes by Daniel Sbarra.

2018 repress. Reissue of Farpardokly's self-titled release, originally released in 1967. Fapardokly is probably regarded as the most important release in Merrell Fankhauser's long career, and an absolute collector's item. The band recorded about 30 tracks in a small studio in Palmdale, California, from 1965 to 1967, when the owner of the studio decided to release an album with some of these tracks. With such different recording dates, you find here different sounds -- organized '60s pop, jangly folk-rock, psychedelia -- a truly fantastic album that finally gets, for the first time, a legit vinyl reissue and with the original artwork. Comes with an insert featuring photo from Merrell's personal archive, and liner notes by him as well.

Restocked; the legendary 1967-68 recordings by UK mod band The Action, registered when they were in transition from mod-beat to full-blown psychedelia, just prior to becoming Mighty Baby. Originally recorded as a set of demos with the intention of obtaining an album deal which inexplicably never materialized, Rolled Gold is a collection of brilliant songs, melancholic yet powerful. The Action's classic line-up of Reg King, Alan "Bam" King, Michael Evans, and Roger Powell is augmented with the inclusion of new members Martin Stone on guitar and Ian Whiteman on flute/organ. All of them are playing their hearts out: superb harmonies, great guitar work, and clever arrangements which show the influence of bands like The Byrds and the psychedelic sounds that were coming from the west coast and UK as well as jazz giants like Coltrane. Always the stuff of legend, the Rolled Gold tapes were shelved at the time, not released until 1997 when the Dig The Fuzz label discovered them and did a limited LP/CD run. Out of print on vinyl for many years, Guerssen Records present a new vinyl edition. If you dig the psychedelic era of Small Faces, Pretty Things, The Who, Plus The Creation, Nazz, Tomorrow, Blossom Toes, The End, or Traffic -- look no further. Digitally remastered from the master tapes. Includes insert with photos and detailed liner notes by Jason Barnard (Shindig!).
"It's as if Paul Weller time-travelled back to 1967 and wrote the best songs of his career. Every track is a fully realized melodic and lyrical statement." --Matt Collar, All Music
"I could imagine, if they had been able to do them 'properly,' Rolled Gold stood to be thought of as their Ogden's Nut Gone Flake." --David M. Snyder (Popdiggers)
"We were really excited about what we were doing and felt we were creating something fresh and new."--Alan "Bam" King
"The Action never became stars, but Rolled Gold justifies the legend." --David Fricke (Rolling Stone)

Repress in vintage-styled tip-on hard cardboard sleeve. Guerssen Records present a reissue of Dave Bixby's Ode To Quetzalcoatl, originally released in 1969. Since its discovery in the late '90s, Dave Bixby's legendary $2000 private press album from 1969 is considered by all serious record collectors as the king in the loner/downer folk genre. After being involved in '60s Michigan folk and garage-rock bands such as The Shillelaghs and Peter & The Prophets, Bixby started playing acoustic guitar and experimenting with LSD. After a year of drug abuse, he felt broken. Starting a soul-searching, spiritual journey, he wrote Ode To Quetzalcoatl and most of the material for his second album, Harbinger's Second Coming (1970) in just one month and a half. Assisted by fellow musician Brian MacInness, who played some guitar parts on the album, Dave recorded Quetzalcoatl using an echo-laden four-track machine in a flat's living room. The sound is lo-fi and sparse: just acoustic guitars and some occasional harmonica and flute, added to Bixby's haunting, emotional vocals, spiritual lyrics, and solid songwriting. The opening cut, the eerie and painful "Drug Song" sets the mood perfectly for the rest of the album which contains more tormented titles like "666", "Lonely Faces", "Open Doors", "Secret Forest" -- never has an acoustic folk album sounded so intense. Carefully remastered sound from vinyl (no master tapes exists) done at Shadoks Music Studios. Includes insert with detailed liner notes by Matvei Procak, who found Bixby in 2006, plus some rare pictures.

Previously unreleased DIY homemade psychedelia, teen beat, and fuzz-psych/prog by the amazing Swedish band Cymbeline, recorded from 1965-1971. Tracks like "Third Image" or "Look At The Stars" are an incredible find for anyone into US garage-psych (they wouldn't sound out of place on any Pebbles or Psychedelic Unknowns volume) and others like "Flicka", "Stolta Vingar", or "Mittuppslag" are top-notch, '70s fuzzed-out Scandinavian psych/prog. Formed in the industrial town of Norrköping in the mid '60s, Cymbeline (also known as Motala Ström and W&J) only released a 45 in 1971 before breaking up. But during their existence, the band recorded a lot of stuff, included here for the first time along with their rare 45. Cymbeline was basically two guys, Michael Journath and Anders Weyde, who met in 1965 while they both played in beat bands. They started recording songs at Anders's little home studio with help with some friends, and that's how songs like "Imagination" and "Look At The Stars" -- amazing examples of homemade teen beat -- were born. At the same time, Michael and Anders were feeling a bit tired of playing cover versions with their beat bands, so they decided to start recording more experimental stuff, using armchairs and furniture as percussion, sounds from seagulls and birds, an electric cocktail mixer, and improvising lyrics -- these incredible experiments were recorded as "Images", including the killer garage-psych sounding "Third Image". As the years passed by, the home studio improved and new songs were recorded in a more psych-prog vein, some of them included here. They also played a few live gigs with some help from other local musicians. In 1970, Ulf Ryberg joined the group and soon after a 45 was released containing his song "New York". The flip side was "Sixth Image", originally one of the "Images" but rearranged and re-recorded (1971). In 1971, demos for an LP were recorded at Europafilm Studios in Stockholm. Two fantastic songs are included here and the sound is different from the earlier recordings -- closer to the groups live performances. So, 40 years later, here is the LP that Cymbeline always dreamed of. Remastered sound; Insert with photos and liner notes by band member Michael Journath.

Guerssen Records present a reissue of The New Tweedy Bros!, originally released in 1968. Originally from Portland, the New Tweedy Brothers were formed by brothers Fred and Danny Lackaff, plus Dennis Fagaly and Steve Ekman. In 1966, they relocated to San Francisco, where they were part of the exploding, nascent psychedelic ballroom scene, influencing none other than Jerry Garcia, and sharing the stage with bands like The Warlocks (pre-Grateful Dead), Quicksilver, and Big Brother, among others. Upon returning to Oregon, they self-released their only album in 1968, housed in a striking hexagonal, over-sized silver foil cover, now a holy grail between psychedelic collectors. Innocent vocal harmonies, fuzzy bass, jangly guitars, raga sounds -- 100% uncut psychedelia and garage-y, jangly folk-rock from 1968. RIYL: The Byrds, Moby Grape, Jefferson Airplane, The Charlatans, Buffalo Springfield. "Many punters feel that this LP epitomizes the innocent first wave of 'the West Coast Sound' before it was quickly corrupted." --John T. Berg Master tape sound; Includes insert with rare photos, memorabilia, and an interview with original band member Fred Lackaff; Original hexagonal silver foil artwork adapted to a standard cover.

Limited repress. Three-LP box version in purple-and-gold hot-foil-stamped box with eight-page insert and poster. A treasure trove of previously unreleased West Coast guitar psychedelia, 1966-1975. "Uther Pendragon was more than just a band, it was a family. Closer than brothers, they lived together, made music together, worked, played, laughed, cried and dreamed together." --Mike Stax (Ugly Things)
This is the incredible story of Uther Pendragon, a lost psychedelic band from San Francisco whose music has remained buried until now. Formed in the Bay Area in 1966 as a teen garage group called Blue Fever, Uther Pendragon lasted from 1966 until 1978. During that time, the band went through different names and phases, as their music evolved from garage to psychedelia to hard rock, but the core of the band always remained the same: Mark Lightcap (rhythm guitar, vocals), Bruce Marelich (lead guitar, vocals), and Martin Espinosa (bass, vocals). After finding their ultimate drummer in Mike Beers, the group finally settled on the Uther Pendragon name in the early '70s. But despite being active for all that time and recording at numerous studios (including their own in Palo Alto), Uther Pendragon never released any recordings. Their complex and fascinating story, which involves winning a Bay Area Battle of the Bands and playing with Country Joe & The Fish, recording a killer garage-psych 7" acetate in 1967, going to the legendary Pacific Recording Studios in 1969 to record a demo, living as a family in the same house for many years and rehearsing seven days a week, building their own recording studio and music corporation, being managed by Craig Pedersen (Something Wild, Tripsichord Music Box), being involved in an occult-themed rock opera called Sabbat, and much more, is told with all the details by Mike Stax from Ugly Things in this set's extensive liner notes, with rare photos. Produced from the band's vast archive of original master tapes, San Francisco Earthquake includes their unknown-until-now 7" acetate from 1967 (fab garage-psych in the vein of The Human Expression or The Music Machine); tracks from 1966-'69 including a groundbreaking, moody psycher from 1966; a demo tape from 1969 recorded at Pacific Recording -- an incredible document for any lover of early SF garage-psych (think Oxford Circle, The Savage Resurrection, Moby Grape . . .) -- and many tracks recorded at their home studio in Palo Alto. 100% unadulterated West Coast guitar psych and hard rock that recalls QMS and even Kurihara-era White Heaven.

Bedroom/lo-fi psychedelia by unsung heroes of the '80s DIY cassette culture scene. From outsider synth-pop to Barrett-esque lysergic folk; from lo-fi garage-punk to basement prog: acid-fuzz guitars, cheap keyboards, primitive electronics, homemade vibes, and bizarre, funny lyrics. Pig Rider were formed in Kent, UK, in the late '60s by John Mayes and Colin Kitchener. With the help from some friends they recorded and self-released a series of acetate-only psych-folk albums in the mid-'70s (Heterophonies, Bloody Turkey Sandwiches...), which are prime examples of early DIY psychedelic music, highly sought-after since a review of Heterophonies appeared in Richard Morton Jack's Galactic Ramble book. In 2013, collector Alexandre Mansuy (from the influential Somewhere There Is Music blog) found Mayes and Kitchener and was astonished when they told him their story: Heterophonies was only one of their many, many great recordings, 22 in all, including 45s, acetates, and tapes. Thanks to Mansuy, Guerssen is launching a comprehensive Pig Rider reissue campaign, starting with The Robinson Scratch Theory. The compilation includes tracks originally recorded between 1980 and 1986 and released as private cassettes. Pig Rider's sound brings to mind obscure DIY bands like The Desperate Bicycles, Instant Automatons, or Beyond the Implode -- if those bands knew how to write catchy and well-crafted songs. But the most amazing thing is that Pig Rider were creating this kind of music for their own amusement without any knowledge of the post-punk or DIY movement. Although they were listening to bands like the Bonzos, Pink Floyd, and The Misunderstood -- "I played their 'Children of the Sun' 45 until the groove was worn out!" says Kitchener -- Pig Rider claim that the main influence on what they played was the availability of instruments and what they could do with them -- not always what they were designed for -- and always pushing their limits. The Robinson Scratch Theory is presented in master tape sound with an insert/booklet containing detailed liner notes and photos. The double CD edition includes four bonus tracks that are also available as a free download via Bandcamp. The compilation is released in advance of first-ever reissues of two of Pig Rider's ultra-rare '70s acetates, Bloody Turkey Sandwiches (1974) and Heterophonies (1975). Welcome to the twisted world of one of the truly pioneering DIY psychedelic pop bands.

2018 repress. First ever legit vinyl reissue of Rick Saucedo's mind-expanding, one-man, multi-tracked private press miracle in sound from 1978. Master tape sound; original artwork; includes insert with interview with Saucedo and detailed liner notes by Jeremy Cargill (Got Kinda Lost/Ugly Things). Heaven Was Blue drifts in the same sonic milieu as fellow travelers in '60s square peg joy Darius, Marcus, D.R. Hooker (without the lounge allusions), or late period psych adventurers Michael Angelo and Bobb Trimble -- and his concentration and vision equals or exceeds these international underground heroes. Rick Saucedo is an internationally-known Elvis tribute artist, actor, and singer-songwriter from Chicago. In 1978, after some years of doing his Elvis show, he decided he wanted to have his own identity, and recorded an album with his own songs, influenced by The Beatles and Pink Floyd. All instruments on the album were played by Rick with help from a couple of friends. Songs like "Reality," which was written in a graveyard just after the passing of Mr. Presley, or "In My Mind," which dates back to 1967, written just after Sgt. Pepper had come out, are prime examples of dreamy acid psych with Lennon-esque vocals, lysergic guitars, and studio effects. There's also a couple of fuzz rockers with a strong '50s vibe, and then there's the album centerpiece: the impressive 18-minute "Heaven Was Blue" suite, which Rick envisioned as an "acid trip dream." In words of Patrick Lundborg, "Saucedo pulls it off. Somehow like how you turn the wheels on a kaleidoscope, new melodies, guitar figures and arrangements emerge out of the old ones every three minutes, each sequence more swirling and enchanting that the last, with a sense of progression throughout." This expanded reissue offers a full extra album of bonus tracks: "Oh My God" was the conclusion to "Reality" and "In My Mind," recorded in 1978 but omitted from the original album at the last moment. Previously unreleased on vinyl until now. "Baby in the Sand" and "It Burns Again Today" were written during the Heaven Was Blue sessions but went unrecorded until 1991; they're terrific sitar-drenched melodic psych in the same vein as the original album. Previously unreleased on vinyl until now. And there's also both sides of the post-album single Reality/History Makin' - Country Shakin', which featured different mixes and an alternate mix of "Reality." These tracks were originally released as promo 45s in very limited quantities.

LP version. Guerssen presents a reissue of Perseverance Kills Our Game, an absolute masterpiece of European progressive psychedelic folk rock. Dutch band Avalanche formed in the early '70s and recorded Perseverance Kills Our Game, their only album, in 1979, and released it in a private edition of 500 copies, which were only distributed among friends and relatives. Despite being a home-made project (the album was recorded in just one day!), the result was stunning. Totally early '70s sounding electric folk rock with flute, piano, bass, drums, and killer fuzz guitar. Mostly instrumental with sparse vocals in English. It alternates delicate acoustic passages with devastating fuzz leads, sounding like Fairport Convention jamming with early Ash Ra Tempel. The album closes with an extended 11-minute track on which guitar player Daan Slaman starts playing leads like a madman, creating layers and layers of liquid acid-fuzz guitar. It has to be heard to be believed! This reissue was produced in cooperation with the original band members. LP insert features rare photos and liner notes by Richard Allen. Carefully remastered from original vinyl (the masters were destroyed long ago) using state-of-the-art equipment.
