"Miller Carr hails from the idyllic, alpine wilderness of Northern California's Shasta County. The Carr family line is entrenched in the region's history: the original descendents were gold rush chancers, his grandfather a county judge, great uncle a District Attorney, and his father a liberal free-spirited lawyer turned history professor. Now a resident of the City By The Bay, Miller recorded this absolute modern masterpiece in the heated swamps of Brooklyn during the summer of 2005. The music recalls the sound of Bob Dylan's darkest mid-'60s work, with ghostly organs and melodicas complimenting Miller's impressionistic lyrics. He also follows a line of current brilliant melodicists such as Rufus Wainwright, Cass McCombs, and the UK's Ed Harcourt and is one of the few artists nowadays that can appropriate the vibe and songwriting verve of Tom Waits without resorting to the mimicking of Waits' grizzled, mumbling groan. In the present day indie scene's parade of musical hucksters peddling clichéd rehashes of the past, Miller Carr's debut will surely resonate with music fans looking for an inspired revision of classic songcraft and musical bewilderment."

"The long-anticipated full-length debut from Isota's first band, Birds of America. A beautifully understated song cycle, all scratchy emotion, lo-fi indie charm, and lyrical whimsy from Nathaniel Russell. For fans of Devendra Banhart, The Microphones, and Neutral Milk Hotel."
