What is a Dirty Banana? It's a tasty cocktail that blends ingredients like rum, Kahlúa and banana liqueur. But who the hell are the Dirty Bananas? The name masks a Viennese duo consisting of DJ Cut Ex (Urbs & Cutex) and Addy-F (3MinutenEi). The two producers dug deep in the crates to create a delicious recipe, incorporating the finest disco flavors from the '70s and '80s. In a lucky turn of events, six of their cuts made their way to Luv Shack Records a couple of months ago; thus, the Cocktails EP was born. The EP opens with "No Lie", a low slung, cheerful synth-funk jam that feels a bit like a lost B-Side from a certain furry Italian edit duo. "Melody" takes notes from a beloved oddball jazz funk classic, while maintaining the boogie flavor with plenty of machine drums, synth bass and a perfectly quirky lead solo to boot. On "Draft", the Bananas ramp up the tempo to unleash a short but tasty disco stomper with extra crispy drums. The laid back, percussion heavy disco chugger "Gentle Breeze" comes packed with an extra portion of familiar samples and chopped up drums, while "I'm U" takes a leftfield disco classic, and, in a no-nonsense approach, loops the hell out of it while blending it with a more moody sample. Lastly, "Fairmax" circles around a jazzy organ melody on top of a super-dry, yet punchy drum-machine loop. What a shockingly delicious journey.

The sonic movement once known as downbeat continues to cast a long and intimidating shadow over the Austrian electronic music scene, with influential figures like Kruder & Dorfmeister reigning atop a metaphorical mountain of venerable dubplates, resembling ancient gods. Now, emerging from the depths of this mountain, comes Triangle, poised to rejuvenate the genre with Amor Fati, brimming with the purest liquid downbeat gold. Featuring an abundance of dusty breaks, reggae vocals, atmospheric keys and strings, dub stabs, wonky acid sequences, and deep basslines, these tunes check all the right boxes without ever feeling like mere imitations. The overall vibe remains warm, mellow, and hazy, while each track seamlessly weaves in an array of peculiar soundbites. Dive into the depths of Amor Fati, an album that bridges eras of timeless electronic soundscapes.

Lee Stevens returns to Luv Shack Records for his first solo EP in over ten years, after exploring a more relaxed sound under his Rising Seed moniker. The opening track "Right On" creates a sonic universe where Ennio Morricone and John Carpenter have joined forces to make synth heavy dance music. "Maskaron" sounds like a full homage to new wave and the obscure side of Italo disco, topped with chanting reminiscent of 1970s western movies. On "Trippin´ On Your Love", Lee Stevens taps into early proto-house and synth-dance, complete with Arp bass and occasional breakbeats. Track number four, "Ju Know," features Lee Stevens and long-time collaborator Simonlebon in a moody, upbeat jam with heavy low-end synths, bittersweet vocal samples, and '80s pop-style piano chords. Finally, the closing track "Destruction" features tight 808 drums accompanying a dark bassline and eerie vocals, with uplifting synth chords reminding us there is still hope.

The thing with biscuits is, you can rarely get enough. Luckily the second batch of extra crunchy disco biscuits is fresh out of the oven courtesy of Luv Shack Records! On "If You", Lee Stevens teams up with Ken Hayakawa for a slab of high-octane house music, followed by Das Komplex's "Odmewianie", a quirky mid-tempo Balearic number with strong Belgian new beat flavor. LeSale goes full on Nordic disco with the upbeat yet mysterious "What Lies Beyond", and, lastly, Jakobin & Domino deliver a flawlessly floating house shuffler by the name of "Square One". That's the way the biscuits crumble!

The opening track is a remix of Space Echo's "Come Back Home" by none other than Norwegian producer extraordinaire Prins Thomas. His 11-minute revision of the 2014 hit balances countless layers of funky guitar riffs, Moogish leads and meticulously layered disco drums, resulting in an ever-evolving trippy cosmic masterpiece. Hot on the Heels of Prins Thomas' remix, ROTCIV takes Rising Seed's "Train to Kismarton" to Italo town, adopting only the eerie western guitars from the original, whilst building a wonky '80s sound carpet of analogue arpeggios and punchy DMX drums around it. Next up, Luv Shack newcomer Endrik Schroeder takes on "Wake Up" by Neon Amish & Space Echo. His remix blends the synth goodness of the original with powerful disco-house drums, unleashing a hi-energy vibe that's both uplifting and nostalgic, once incorporating the vocals of Tarek Farwati on the original remix and leaving even more room for the synth pads on the dub remix. The Golden Boogie Connection delivers their super lush rework of Space Echo's "Soul Power" with a tight, organic groove, witty extra instruments such as funk guitars, disco strings and beautifully light-footed vocals. With "Ridin' High" perhaps being one of the most classic Luv Shack tracks, Lee Stevens takes on the task of remixing himself as Rising Seed, opting for a laid back dub house style with bonus pan flutes.

The Austrian musician and live-act/DJ Lukas Poellauer has been establishing a distinct production style with recent releases and remixes on Luv Shack Records, Fine Coincidence, Fortunea Records, and Schönbrunner Perlen, melting classic house with airy, catchy melodies, and mature songwriting. "I Don't Care" is the name of his first single for an upcoming release on Luv Shack Records and features the Austrian funk band Mary Jane's Soundgarden and the piano player Valentin Zopp. The vastly featured musical talent of the Band makes the track oscillate between tight, club ready production and earthy, live-jazz café vibes, with the hazy voice of singer Tanja Peinsipp at its core. For his second track Lukas Poellauer teams up with legendary singer Hubert Tubbs of Tower of Power fame. Tubb´s remarkable vocal timbre perfectly contrasts the light footed instrumental, as he sings about "When A Groove Is In Control". The actual groove itself is reduced and rather laid back, but Lukas Poellauer manages to bring in both dramatic and quirky overtones with a plethora of mallet, brass, and string melodies. On the flip, Patrick Pulsinger and Sam Irl deliver a fabulous dub rendition of "I Don't Care" with a mad wobble bassline and classic reggae stabs, sitting comfortably between Grace Jones' electronic tango and the hazy studio wizardry of dub emperor Lee Perry. Luv Shack's very own Space Echo put their spin on "When A Groove Is In Control", opting for a cold and eerie vibe with the help of digital bell pads and a tight, stripped-down four-to-the-floor groove. Rounding off the package, is the Pulsinger and Irl instrumental dub which really makes the fantastic arrangement and mix shine even more.
