"Now Mwahaha will be re-issued by Plug Research and will appear for the first tine on vinyl (at last!), complete with new tracks not found on the original release, creating an expanded edition. The band consists of Ross Peacock (formerly of Clipd Beaks) and brothers Nathan and Cyrus Tilton (all three were previously in the Bay Area cult band NED). Throbbing ebb and flow, electronic undercurrents and elated pop flourishes characterize the album. Instruments are filtered through an array of analogue synths, analog drum machines exist in harmony with live drums, and other morphing walls of sound and spiraling sonic landscapes, Peacock's lyrics and often times haunting vocals distinctly ground the album. Inspiration was drawn from the tangible energy of the Oakland music scene which continues to burst with new bands and collaborations. Mwahaha took full advantage of this, enlisting friends from other bands to lend drum parts, as well as the singular voice of Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs on one of the album's stand-outs 'Love.' Anticon's Odd Nosdam also provided a notable remix upon the album's original release as well."

"Los Angeles-based artist Aleksander 'Exile' Manfredi is not the first in his family to create music. His father, Albert Trent Manfredi (R.I.P.) and grandfather Alberico Manfredi were both musicians. His father released some 45s in the 1960s that are now highly sought after. His grandfather not only taught music, but also played in a diverse mix of bands ranging from Mariachi to traditional Italian music. At an early age, Exile was exposed to a wide variety of music. Living in his grandfather's garage, he learned to play the accordion. His father was experimenting with drugs at the time and was not around much. Exile moved with his mother and sister to a two bedroom, Section 8 apartment. With no money or car and barely enough food -- paid for with welfare checks and food stamps -- he sought refuge in music. Exile's early exposure to hip-hop grew into the desire to create the music he loved himself. At the age of 18, Exile met up with rapper, Aloe Blacc, 16-years-old at the time. With a one-button sampler and a four-track, they formed Emanon and started making their own albums. Exile, then met 19-year-old rapper Blu and together started work on his solo effort Dirty Science, featuring Slum Village, MED and Ghostface Killah. Together they also made the critically acclaimed classic, Blu and Exile: Below The Heavens. After producing tracks for artists such as Mobb Deep, Jurassic 5, Akon and Snoop Dogg, he continued to excel in the art of creating music with his first instrumental album entitled Radio. The album immediately made an impact, and now we bring you the follow up, AM/FM. The AM/FM vinyl release is a collection of reworked/remixed/new compositions and interpretations of Radio tracks. Features include Alchemist, Evidence, Shafiq Husayn, Samiyam, Blu, DJ Day, Free The Robots, and more. Nine amazing Exile tracks that feature friends and inspirational peers, whom Exile himself has compiled. If you liked Radio, AM/FM will definitely take you through another musical journey."

James Figurine is the new project by Jimmy Tamborello (The Postal Service, Dntel, Figurine) and features contributions from John Tejada (Plug Research, Palette Recordings), Erlend Øye (Kings of Convenience), Jenny Lewis (Rilo Kiley, The Postal Service), Sonya Westcott (Arthur and Yu) and Morgan Nagler (Whispertown 2000). "So this record was supposed to be an extra melodic, minimal techno record with some sparse vocals. Instead, my technopop tendencies got the best of me, the songs slowly filled up, and this is what I ended up with. It's called Mistake Mistake Mistake Mistake, because that's what I kept chanting to the beat while I worked on the tracks. John Tejada (Palette Recordings, Plug Research) assisted me along the way, adding sounds to some of the songs, helping write and arrange a few, and then mixing everything in the end." -- James Figurine

"Songs the Animals Taught Us is an album populated with a vast array of characters, most of them archetypes of our Bush-era landscape: young, idealistic lovers who aren't afraid to die; war profiteers; middle-class workers fretting about the economy; upper-class society 'status hounds.' Few artists have been willing to shine a light so candidly on modern America, but Kent Lambert (from Chicago, IL), doing business as Roommate, does so with aplomb. Following in the lyrical footsteps of David Byrne, Roommate trains a quirky eye on life's minutia, using the mundane to explore larger issues, from war and the economy to social status and young love. Roommate's production draws on an eclectic array of influences, both past and present: The skewed pop of Xiu Xiu and Jens Lekman, the down-home instrumentation of Neil Young and The Band, the electronic flourishes of Broadcast and M83, the ethereal beauty of My Bloody Valentine and Cocteau Twins -- all are adopted by Roommate and refracted through his own distinctive lens."

"Highly acclaimed around the world for his inspired and at times surreal songwriting, soulful voice and eerie, unique production. Damon Aaron is poised to reach the next level with Ballast his first official full length release, long over due for a career in music that has lasted more than 15 years. Somehow, the spiritual idea that, things all happen in divine time rings true here. Aaron's musical sound and message are right on time, fusing influences as diverse as Nick Drake, Mississippi John Hurt, folkloric music of West Africa, Lee Scratch Perry, King Tubby and even DJ Premier. Aaron takes you through the highs and lows of life as expressed by a struggling young father with a tremendous insight and undying dedication to the melodies and harmonies that run through his head."

"Camping is German Bossa Nova recorded in Washington, DC featuring the indie darlings, Chessie. Is it an oddity? Yes, a delicious mutant engineered to startle ears and electrify curiosities. The shining spirit behind Camping is German musician, Henning Fritzenwalder. His voice flows with the lyrical coo of Bossa Nova father Joao Gilberto. Language barriers crumble as melodies rise. Vocals soar with understated sophistication evoking warm breezes. Henning enlisted friends Stephen Gardner and Ben Bailes to color the sound complete. The American duo, known for making railway inspired sound waves as Chessie, spread the instrumental palette while refining the essence. The cornerstones of Bossa Nova stand tall. Drums, guitar, and voices shine with soul while abstract elements fly into the mix. 1960's Brazil tuned in by a time traveling radio. Short-wave crackles and static frame the shuffling glow. Camping is an excursion into fantasies conjured by sizzling rhythms and sparkling chords. The heat of Brazil is reflected through DC's humidity."

"Their fifth album, The Four Walls shows how much the guys have grown musically from their last album, Unithematic. In previous albums, Languis combined live instrumentation with electronic music, always placing a stronger emphasis on the latter. In The Four Walls, a stronger balance between the two mediums is established, placing an increasing focus on the use of live drums, guitars and vocals. The track 'Never Now' is a perfect example of where Languis has taken it's sound, mixing subtle electronic elements, with the music you might nave heard from The Stone Roses, Joy Division or New Order in the 80's. The music of Languis conceives mental images via melodies and moods. They construct sonic sounds that interact, much like color and shape evolve and dissolve in paintings. Their melodic warmness is a signature that they developed through songwriting and experimentation in the studio."

"This time around they blossom in a wide, spatial wall of sound. Psychedelic rock, bluegrass, and avant-garde electronic are micro-mixed into hypnotic tapestries. An orchestra of French horn, clarinet, banjo, flute, and trombone make the mix rich. Drums crunch in line with bleeping blips as violins drip sweet nothings into open ears. Think the glacial crescendos of Sigur Ros, cosmic rock of the Flaming Lips, and the hyper eclecticism of the Beta Band. Guest-musicians include John Tejada, Jussi Lehtisalo of Finnish band Circle and Pharaoh Overload and Ted Casterline of NY's Krakotoa. Co-mixed by Scott Benzel who has worked with Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Calexico and Fat Possum Records."

"This is the second single from Dntel's critically acclaimed album Life Is Full Of Possibilities with vocals by Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie). Up-tempo fractured beats make this the closest thing to a pop song you'll find on the album. The original version appears here for the first time on vinyl and is joined by four remixes. Safety Scissors, enlists the help of Erlend Øye from Norway (Kings Of Convenience) to rewrite and re-sing the entire song, Barbara Morgenstern turns it into a duet, Kompakt recording artist Superpitcher makes this into a an anthem for this summers outdoor festivities, and Lali Puna (members of The Notwist) take the vocals out altogether and add their own melancholy melodies."

"Soulo levitate from a point on the horizon and land on our step. Not to say that Soulo is courageous. Soulo is inward reflective rock -- unsteady. A discrepancy worth noting is that Soulo illuminates what kind of musical terrain they go at with equipment and habits appropriated from ye olde rock, and its predecessors. With guitar/bass/percussion for a skeleton, and melody as prime fluid, Soulo make electric songs like a whale-oil torch illuminating the future. Soulo's music is too discreet to be rock, too jamming to be ambient and too eventual to be the blues. But you could use any title from the Jimi Hendrix song book to name any given Soulo track. Wind Cried Mary 3rd Stone from the Sun etc. That would make the Krauts happy. And that would make Soulo happy."
