Subtitled: Lovers Rock In The UK 1975-1992. "Soul Jazz Records' release Harmony, Melody and Style tells the story of lovers rock, which exploded in the UK in 1975, when an ex-Caribbean population of producers, artists and audience who had grown up in London, created for the first time a new uniquely British reggae sound. Lovers rock mixed American soul music with Jamaican reggae. At the forefront of this movement were young black women -- who became both the main stars of lovers rock (Janet Kay, Carroll Thompson and Louisa Marks) as well as its primary audience. This explosion of musical artistry was partly a reaction against the strident political roots sound emanating from Jamaica during this period, as well as a defining of a unique Black British heritage which absorbed influences from the USA, Jamaica and the UK. At the heart of lovers rock remained the soundsystem culture that Jamaican producers brought from the Caribbean and transposed to inner city London life. Harmony, Melody and Style tells the story of lovers rock ? from its soundsystem beginnings, its commercial explosion at the start of the 1980s and its underground continuance into the next decade as the founding producers continued to effortlessly absorb and mutate American soul, disco and rare groove styles into a distinctly British reggae sensibility. The album includes classic and rare tracks and comes with extensive text, as well as interviews with artists, musicians and producers who helped define lovers rock as well as exclusive photography." Double CD pack with slipcase. Artists include: Eva Smart, Carroll Thompson, Jean Adebambo, Trevor Hartley, Blood Sisters, Yvonne Archer, Louisa Marks, The Cool Notes, Legato, Candy McKenzie, Wendy Walker, The Sadonians and more.

"Amazing three disc set of this film and music project made in Colombia. Filmmakers Santiago Posada and Simon Meija arrived at Palenque, near the Caribbean coast of Colombia to record the music of the area and to make a documentary film about the people of Palenque. Palenque is a central location for Afro-Colombian culture, the location of the first free slave (or Maroon) community in the Americas. With its own unique style of music and language, heavily influenced by its African heritage, it holds a unique position and is today proclaimed by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The film-makers built a studio in the town in order to record the highly percussive roots music that mixes African and Latin in equal flavors. Once back home they enlisted a select number of like-minded electronic, house and dubstup artists to produce a second disc of remixes - including Osunlade, Mattias Aguayo, Kromestar and others to interpret the original works. This set includes the DVD, a CD of original music and a CD of remixes. It comes in a stunning three case box set with sleeve notes about the project and the history of Palenque and exclusive photography." DVD is double sided, so NTSC on one side, PAL on the other, both region free.

"This deluxe 216 page hard-back 12"x12" book features hundreds of stunning full size record cover designs from the legendary Studio One Records. Described by Chris Blackwell as the University of Reggae, Studio One is by far the most important record label in the history of reggae music, an A-Z of Jamaican music as iconic as Motown was to soul, or Blue Note for jazz. The book features classic artwork from Bob Marley and the Wailers, Horace Andy, Alton Ellis, Freddie McGregor, The Skatalites, Marcia Griffiths, Burning Spear, The Heptones, Toots and the Maytals and many more artists all of whom launched their careers at Studio One. As well as many classic sleeves there are numerous rare designs including a collectors' section featuring many alternate, silkscreen and rarely seen designs. As Jamaica approaches the 50th anniversary of independence, this stunning deluxe book is a timely look at reggae music's legendary record label and the artists and musicians that it made famous. The book also includes an introductory essay by Steve Barrow (author of Rough Guide to Reggae) and is edited by Stuart Baker (Soul Jazz Records)."

Subtitled: Garifuna: Ancestral Travellers of the Caribbean. "In 2010, Soul Jazz Records embarked on their latest unique recording project, travelling to the Caribbean as they continue to document musical hot spots around the world. Their latest venture is to record the unique Afro-percussive music of the Black Caribs of Belize. Belize (or British Honduras as it was formerly known) was the last British colony in Central America and is currently celebrating its 30th year of independence from Britain. Soul Jazz Records and label founder Stuart Baker travelled to Dangriga, epicentre of Garifuna culture, on the Caribbean coast of Belize, to produce this new album with Black Carib singers, drummers and musicians. The West African ancestry of the Black Caribs is a link to the other Afro-musics of the Caribbean and Latin America - the massive drum groups of the Samba Schools of Brazil, the Voodoo poly-rhythmical drums of Haiti, Afro-Cuban Salsa and the sacred Bata drums of Santeria, as well as the hypnotic rhythm of Nigeria's Afro-Beat and other African musical forms. The album features the many different styles of Black Carib (or Garifuna) music. The most famous and popular form is the punta, a dance style that was updated in the 1970s when local artists electrified the sound to create punta rock. The most successful groups - Pen Cayetano with the Original Turtle Shell Band, and more recently Andy Palacio were the first artists to bring Garifuna music to a wider audience. UNESCO has also recently proclaimed the music of the Black Caribs/Garifuna as one of the masterpieces of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity. The super-deluxe hard-cased CD pack comes complete with extensive text about the culture and history of the Black Caribs of Belize, as well as exclusive photographs of the sessions alongside song annotation and translations."

Subtitled: Bossa Nova And The Rise Of Brazilian Music In The 1960s. "This is the first ever collection of bossa nova record cover artwork, featuring stunning modernist and revolutionary designs that were a reflection of the radical and exciting idealism of Brazil at the start of the 1960s. As Brazil developed into an urban society, with 'apartment living' and consumer goods, bossa nova projected an image that was modern, sophisticated and cool. This era of modernity and developmentalism was also heralded by the building of BrasÃlia, the new capital city built deep in the country's hinterland, designed by the radical modernist architect Oscar Niemeyer. This book is a unique collection of the cover art of Brazilian bossa nova music, containing hundreds of record covers complete with a history of bossa nova, biographies and essays on many of the artists involved in the movement. To coincide with the book, there is also a separate CD album, Bossa Nova And The Rise Of Brazilian Music In The 1960s, released on Soul Jazz Records." "Original garage and junglist Grievous Angel makes dubstep, UK-funky and 2-step. Originally from East London, he migrated to Brixton before settling in Sheffield in 2002, where he started producing seriously. His first vinyl outing on his own Devotional Dubz imprint was a dubstep and garage re-fix of D'Angelo's 'Lady Dub,' championed by Radio One DJ Mary Anne Hobbs and dubstep impresario Martin Blackdown Clark. Grievous Angel's gigantic garage remix of jungle don Naphta's 'Soundclash' came out on Blackdown and Dusk's seminal dubstep label Keysound in late 2009 to much acclaim, alongside another Margins Music Redux, where he remixed the entirety of Blackdown and Dusk's first album before re-making it as a DJ mix. As well as doing music, Grievous Angel runs the magazine Woofah, covering reggae, grime and dubstep."

"Recorded in Kingston, Jamaica, two legendary Jamaican MCs, Jah Thomas and Little John, recorded this tune using live musicians and analog equipment. This is the latest project from 2-step/electro producer Kalbata, continuing on from his earlier re-fixes of tunes like Courtney Melody's 'Ninja mi Ninja' and previous tracks on Soul Jazz with Warrior Queen and MC Clapper Priest. Here he takes it to the next level with this heavyweight Discomix 12" featuring two vocal tracks plus a killer dub. Superb!"
