"Junior Thomas is a songwriter, musician, vocalist, and producer born north of Minneapolis, MN. He developed a sincere devotion to classic Jamaican music at a young age, listening to such artists as Dave Barker, The Bleechers, The Wailers, Phyllis Dillon, and Alton Ellis. 'I wanted to make a record that was honest and true to the golden era of Jamaican music' says Thomas. The Volcanos are a collective of Southern Californian musicians specializing in Reggae's late 60s early 70s sound."

"Side A is 'Standing By Your Side' taken from the Emma Jean album. An uptempo, driving number sure to keep dance ¬oors moving thru the summer, DJs will notice the edit we did for the 45. A homage to sticking out the hard times of love with someone, Lee is at his best, pouring out his signature voice over a tough yet gorgeous production by Truth & Soul's own Leon Michels. Sure to be in collectors 45 boxes across the globe. Side B is 'Don't Walk', previously only available on the Truth & Soul 2015 Forecast 10", a tune from the Emma Jean sessions that didn't make it to the album."

"Truth & Soul is proud to present the second volume of our Fallin' Off The Reel compilation on double long playing vinyl. In keeping with T&S tradition when we get enough singles out we get them together onto a comp for the people who collect CDs and digital files. Also in keeping with T&S tradition, when we get to two volumes we choose some of our favorite tunes from both and press them on a double vinyl release. This combo of Vol 3 and 4 contains 26 tracks on 4 sides with songs from Lee Fields & Expressions, Lady, Liam Bailey, El Michels A air, Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band, The Olympians, and more. Vinyl comes with a free download card."

"10 years ago, Truth & Soul released its first full length record, Sounding out the City. It was also Leon Michels' ¬first full length record under the moniker El Michels Affair. At the time, the budding retro soul scene consisted of mostly organ quartets a la The Meters and of course, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings were in the early days of their ascent to world domination. This deluxe reissue features the original Sounding out the City album remastered as well as some alternate remixes and previously unreleased songs that were recorded during the same period as SOTC on the second disc Loose Change. Michels has since gone on to produce and co-produce many of the Truth & Soul releases including the new Lee Fields record, Emma Jean. He shares songwriting credits with Adele, Jay-Z, Ghostface Killah, Aloe Blacc, and has played on records by Ray LaMontagne, Lana Del Rey, The Black Keys and Dr. John. Loose Change is a glimpse into the early, early days of El Michels Affair."

"Coming at a time when many new artists are trying to emulate the soul and swagger of the 1960s, Mr. Fields showers us with authenticity on the 11-track set, highlighted by first single 'Magnolia.' Hear the refreshed cover of the JJ Cale track that embodies the late, great American singer-songwriter and the Tulsa Sound he helped create. Since releasing his first album in 1969, Fields has continued to make music for the last 45 years. They've pushed their sound in new directions, moving from being content as contemporary soul music royalty and instead delving into and exploring its next steps. There's a sharper wisdom in the songwriting--from the having loved, lost, and learned vibe of 'Don't Leave Me This Way,' backed by crooning guitar and wailing horns, to the sophisticated arrangements and studio acumen that's pared with Lee's straightforward sincerity in 'Just Can't Win.' Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys wrote 'Paralyzed,' and having Emma Jean mixed and partially recorded at his Nashville studio, country soul and bluesy rock are immediately noticeable. It brings a different kind of strut to the album, but Fields--born and raised in North Carolina--is right at home with the Southern soul sound."

"In the early seventies, Hank Swarn and Shirley Nanette collaborated on a project called Never Coming Back. Swarn had been on the road for five years, lending his guitar-backing talent to Earl Grant and his band. While on tour, he wrote some tunes that were ultimately released on the Never Coming Back album. Al Nanette approached Hank about putting together a record with Shirley, who was also keen on getting in the studio. Luckily, Swarn already had songs to bring to the session. With the support some talented local musicians, the album was recorded -- mostly in one or two takes -- in a little over a week. Unfortunately, the album saw little exposure. Needless to say, this tremendous effort by Nanette, who continues to sing and perform in Portland, has touched the hearts of many who've recently heard the album for the first time."

"Since the late sixties Lee Fields has amassed a prolific catalog and has played and toured with such legends as Kool and the Gang, Sammy Gordon and the Hip-Huggers, O.V Wright, and many more. With a career spanning 43 years, it's mind-blowing that the music he's making today with Brooklyn's Truth & Soul Records is the best of his career. While drawing comparisons to the Moments, the Delfonics, the Stylistics, and--of course--James Brown, Faithful Man is able to create a space of its own due to the group's desire to interpret and further the formulas of good soul music rather then imitate them. Chalk that up to Truth & Soul producers and co-owners Jeff Silverman and Leon Michels. These are the same individuals that co-wrote, produced, and played on Aloe Blacc's global smash 'I Need A Dollar,' and have provided the back drop for records by Adele, GhostfaceKillah, and Jay-Z to name a few."

"African Music Today is the culmination of a project started seven years ago by world famous record collector Phillip Lehman, who brought his musical knowledge and expertise to help create this collection of some of the funkiest Afro grooves known to man. This compilation spotlights a diverse range of contemporary African artists, from the James Brown-inspired funk of Bama & The Family to the percussion heavy grooves of Pierre Osinibi and Ethiopian sounds of Zafari. It's modern music that recalls the heyday of Fela Kuti, Tony Allen, Mulatu Astatke and others, painstakingly curatted by Phillip Lehman and brought to you by Truth & Soul Records on CD in a 4-panel digipak."

LP version. "Over the past 10 years, Michael Leonhart has performed and/or recorded with some of the best names in music. Some of those names include Yoko Ono, Mos Def, Steely Dan, Brian Eno, James Brown, Bill Withers, David Byrne, and Todd Rundgren, not to mention the 50 plus recordings he has appeared on for Truth & Soul. However, Seahorse and The Storyteller, is the first time the world will be exposed to the psychedelic, reverb drenched, and highly intimate music that has surfaced solely from the imagination of Michael Leonhart. While on the road with Steely Dan in 2005, Leonhart came up with the idea to record a concept record that would meld the styles of Bollywood funk scores, '60s psychedelic rock, and the mythical storytelling of artists like Peter, Paul, & Mary and Donovan. Seahorse and The Storyteller is a modern musical opera that in the words of Leonhart, 'tells the story of two mythical creatures who meet, fall in love and begin piecing together the mysteries of each others' past.' Seahorse is a record that defines genre generalizations and will prove to be one of the most enjoyable and interesting records of 2010. With quirky arrangements featuring strings, mellotron, fuzz guitar, horns, vibes, farfisa, gang vocals, and practically every percussion instrument under the sun, Michael Leonhart & The Avramina 7 have created a new and unique sound that heavily draws influence from artists like R.D Burman, The Beatles, Fela Kuti, and '60s psychedelia, but manages to sound completely fresh and new and like nothing else out there."
