Often duplicated, never imitated: the power of Lauer! Albeit being no stranger himself to musical influences from the outside, the producer from Frankfurt managed to carve out a sound that is very much his own. Indie-dance, Italo, power pop, and house music in its traditional sense get mixed up in a blender of happiness, Lauer's latest achievement for Running Back and welcome return is a mini-LP called Cyclone Days. Aptly titled and ably executed, it's everything you would expect or want from him. A world of merry music, where melody is king. On top of that, you get value for your money: Vocal blockbusters like the upbeat "Somebody" (instrumental included) and the more restrained "Friends" (both with frequent collaborator Dena), sit comfortably between instrumental hits. "Resonator" and "Neway" take the role of the proverbial keys to happiness, while the title track or "Exterminate" balance it out with joyful melancholy. Just imagine Righeira signing to Factory Records or Durutti Column on holidays in Rimini and you are halfway there. The days might be like a cyclone, but as long as there are records like this, the shelter isn't blown.

Lauer makes it all look so easy. Over his two decades in the game, Philipp Lauer's work always manages to mix the best of steely German engineering with deep emotion; industrial-strength beats with the warmth of an old sweater. On Answers 2 Trouble, the Frankfurt-based musician once again delivers the goods: nine tracks stuffed with elite beat making and delicious, '80s-influenced songcraft, drawn together by clever arrangements and expert pacing. After a handful of high-profile collabs over the past few years with the Sex Tags crew, Skatebård, Fabrizio Mammarella, and fellow Tuff City Kid Gerd Janson, the prolific producer sounds energized to be back behind the wheel for a solo spin -- his first LP since 2018's Power (RB 012LP). All the Lauer hallmarks are here: Flashes of modern house and techno, a few drops of acid, layers of gorgeous synths and those wistful melodies that recall an era when New Order played live on Baywatch. While the longtime Robert Johnson Club affiliate hasn't shied away from his John Hughes influences in the past, this time around, Mr. Philipp pushes his sound further into pure pop than ever before. Especially on cuts like "Make It Stay" and "Valentino III," Lauer swaps moody dance floor workouts for breezy, seaside drives. On the former, new collaborator Dena plays Cosey to Lauer's Chris, and the pair craft the kind of song that would sound perfect on a teenage spin in mom's convertible VW Cabriolet. Not that he's gone all pop, though. The Italo-tinged "Altalenanti" lands squarely in Lauer's patented toughness + grooviness equation, while album highlight "Ghost" (alongside frequent vocalist Jasnau) is all shouty vocal hooks, clenched fists and stomping bass lines. Lauer says the new record was completed in his brand-new, purpose-built studio. While it's easy to imagine wiring together all his vintage gear must've been a major chore, thankfully, the results sound effortless. Includes digital download.

The man machine Lauer is back on Permanent Vacation with full power. After 2018's album for Running Back (RB 012LP) and his summer anthem "Inkel Jet 880" for the DGTL label (DGTL 009EP), here is Phillip's new EP Know You. And Lauer does what Lauer does best: Perfecting his proto disco trance sound into four emotional party tracks for romancers and B-Boys alike. On this EP, you even get the chance to sing along. "You Know" features his good old buddy and frequent collaborator Jasnau on vocals. To say it with his words: Don't hesitate!

For his DGTL release, Lauer offers the three-tracker Topo Chico doused with his signature sound. "Inkel Jet 880" might be described as a modern Italo track, but without the typical accented vocals -- thick and synth-y bass-line, sharp chords, a thumping beat, and two effective breaks. "Topo Chico" is a softer sounding track with a swinging bassline and high-pitched arrangement that builds up to stretched-out chords. "Topo Chico (Tribute Mix)" starts with an acidic bass line that drops into a bath of soft sounding bells and Lauer's signature stretched-out chords, while the arrangement gives the track a nostalgic vibe.

Lauer always rhymes with Power. Proven by countless remixes, productions and projects like Arto Mwambe, Black Spuma, Talamanca System or Tuff City Kids and -- naturally -- his own brand. There aren't many dance floors left that haven't been blessed by all this glory. Now, the aptly titled third album of Frankfurt's prime export regarding all things melodic, teenaged and synthesized, intensifies, condenses and hones the sound he has been developing for years. Power is a topical take on classic dance and 80's pop figures, disco music in a closet (Lauer is still in denial), singing arpeggios, android choirs, beautiful bass lines and sometimes the apparitional architecture of house music. Neatly placed on one piece of vinyl, Power collects nine tracks that follow these roads. Expertly produced, recorded on high-end tape and complemented with intricate songwriting, Running Back presents this magnum opus. Power is vintage Lauer. Like his attic (Pyramide Studio 2 for those who know) where a vast synthesizer collection from the days of yore and tomorrow meets other digital dinosaurs and analog Aphrodites, it showcases a sanguine, punky and vivid DIY-aesthetic that isn't too far from a garage band turned into a one-man-orchestra. Glazed with two songs featuring the vocal talents of Jasnau, Power is that sentiment is consolidated, music to dance to and to romance to.

Double LP version; includes CD. Three years after Lauer's 2012 debut, Phillips (RB 004CD/LP), on Running Back, the melody man from the outback of Frankfurt am Main presents Borndom: a 13-track trip through a universe that is specifically his. Lauer is far from a stranger to Permanent Vacation, with singles like Delta Kid (PERMVAC 057EP, 2010) or Donner Lake (PERMVAC 123EP, 2014) heralding things to come; the label and Lauer share a spiritual kinship and ethos. Lauer's music is rooted in pop music and mixed with the reactance and sound aesthetics of punk, while wearing dancing shoes; you'll be hard-pressed to find lots of contemporaries that till a similar field. With a sound signature, a melodic repertoire, and an emotional quality that is immediately recognizable, Lauer's work is highly individualized. Unlike his other adventures in club music (he hardly lets a week go by without a release or a remix for the most critically-acclaimed outfits on this planet, either on his own, under the Hotel Lauer umbrella, or as part of Tuff City Kids), his second album makes the most use of these moments and that specific stylistic palette. Of course, you can find typical high-flying Lauer moments like "Mausback" or "Hump Acid" or the nu-groove-esque desire-dubbed "Pal Oh," but the image of a singer-songwriter with a midi-kit prevails. There are miniatures like "Carpet," the blissful melancholia of the opener "Crewners," the album's title-track that sounds like the lost soundtrack to an '80s sitcom about college nerds, and, maybe most startling, Borndom's vocal features. "ESC With Jasnau" is the proverbial cold-wave mating dance in the neon light, while the two songs with Ela take care of romantic highs and lows. With a sound like something that a band of the past made to be heard in a very distant future, Phillip Lauer's second album sees him at his most matured and endured: Borndom!

Phillip "The Machine" Lauer strikes back. Between the powerful reprint of the Brontosaurus catalog and bringing joy to the world with Gerd Janson as Tuff City Kids, Lauer was able to provide a new EP for Permanent Vacation. The wind up of Phillip Lauer's album debut Phillips (RB 004CD/LP) is in the hands of NYC remix/production outfit Runaway and I:Cube. Runaway do their best to turn "Tentatious" into one of those early-morning deep house dubs. I:Cube manufactures a bumper-car boogie beat that also works as UK rave dub. Lauer himself turns in the hidden album track "Boringtone," his very own secret ode to the Café del Mar, and the super-exclusive "Highdimes."

Gatefold double LP version. This is the magnificent debut album by Phillip Lauer on Running Back. Frankfurt's melody man has amassed a body of work that includes the adventures of Arto Mwambe, top singles on his extinct Brontosaurus label for Permanent Vacation or Live At Robert Johnson as well as remixes for the likes of Maxmillion Dunbar or with the Tuff City Kids project. The songs that make up Phillips (9 tracks on the vinyl version) have been described as 808 State kissing Movin Records while Cluster are in the room -- or a Dolby NR tempest. Whatever you want to call it, it has all the ingredients and romantic notions that can make dance music oscillate between the sacred and the profane: house, gloomy Gothic grooves, cock-eyed electro, new wave trance and lots of songs without words. The power of Lauer.

Tensnake is the host of Phillip Lauer's debut album inauguration party. Delivering not one but two remixes and a barrel of laughs, Hamburg's happy man smears thick red lipstick on Lauer's bittersweet "Trainman" symphony. His "Franceman Mix" does exactly what it says -- a long intro gets rouléd up into a fierce dancing school contest. The "Tranceman Mix" goes the whole nine yards: marimba magic, hard-trance breaks, drum rolls and early-morning glory moments. It's impossible to defang that snake.

The power of Lauer is indisputable. Blessed with the uncanny ability to make hooks that would make Bone Thugs-N-Harmony jealous in their heyday, Phillip Lauer is the melody man. This tour de force comes in two parts on the beloved Live At Robert Johnson label. "H.R. Boss" is New Romantic-Italo-not-Italowave that puts love on top of love. Feels like Delta NRG's filthy little brother. Delectable!

Phillip Lauer is a Frankfurt-based producer, musician and DJ and a name to be remembered. Now, Permanent Vacation releases an out-of-stock pearl from his Brontosaurus label catalog. "Delta NRG" is a unique piano house/disco hybrid and, ever since its release, is considered to be a secret weapon for DJs. "Delta NRG" is beautifully remixed by Mock & Toof, and also included is an exclusive new track from Phillip in a high-NRG machine gun stylee. So you better run for cover, motherf$$$er!

"'It's a Long Way to Tipperary' and Brontosaurus is already reaching reference number 5 after its first most successful year of blood, sweat, tears and parmesello. The records have so far been hammered by such diverse DJs as Prins Thomas, Steve Bug, Richard Sen, Ata, Laurent Garnier, Radio Slave, DJ T., Steve Kotei, Baby G or Cassy, but have not yet turned the artists Arto Mwambe, The Exile Missile, Extraproduktionen and Lauer into rich people. The next attempt, Brontosaurus 5, contains two tracks of the label boss Phillip Lauer, known for his serious house & disco (even Italo) flavored proto-work-outs (recently he did some Brontosaurus remixes for the labels Boogie Farm and Rekids). As always, there will be 500 beautifully hand-crafted covers. Brontosaurus got game."
