L'Esperanza (Hope) is undoubtedly one of Sven Väth's greatest hits. After more than 30 years, Cocoon Recordings are very proud to revive this timeless masterpiece for you. The artwork is from the original 12" cover, which was released on Eye Q Records back then. Anyone who knows Sven recognizes that he has always felt free and evolved in terms of appearance and style. That's why Cocoon instantly loved the idea of Sven re-staging himself in the same pose but in a new guise. This picture disc documents a 30-year-long transformation, both sonically and visually. It is a beautiful journey through time and a true collector's item. Produced in 1993, "L'Esperanza" has certainly not lost any of its charm over the years. Lovely string sounds envelop you in a cloud of comfort, while the filtered downbeat emphasizes this feeling of lightness. The catchy tune of the playful synthesizer melody invites you to close your eyes and start dreaming. Let yourself fall into a deep state of meditation and trance. The airy electric bassline comes with a charismatic power and opens a door to the subconscious, calling on you to dive deep. The atmosphere of this composition sits somewhere between drifting through the sea and hovering through space. "L'Esperanza (Hardspace Mix)," a revised version of the "Hope Will Move Mountains" Mix by Visions Of Shiva, occurs on the B-Side in the form of Len Faki's hardspace mix. Len is renowned for his elegant edits and refined modifications as part of his side project, this time delivering a strippeddown 135 BPM version that fits perfectly into the current zeitgeist. A club version of "L'Esperanza" that radiates a high level of euphoric energy, constantly pushing the rhythm patterns forward. Produced alongside Gregor Tresher, it is a musical autobiography that charts Sven's most extraordinary life in techno. Tresher has long been part of the Cocoon family and is a revered artist in his own right. Catharsis is a record inspired by Sven's interest in the physical and spiritual processes that take place when we dance. "My imagination for this record was fueled by the many cultural experiences and encounters I have had in my life. They gave me the strength to find a way, the way to myself." And that way to himself is through music, through purifying dancing rituals and the exchange of spiritual energies that are generated in the club. The thirteen-track album explores all facets of Sven's sound. It opens with the stomping drums but sleek synths of "What I Used To Play" and unfolds through deep and dirty rhythms like "The Worm", subtly euphoric highs on "The Inner Voice" and the bubbly tribalism of the title track. There is the impassioned call-to-arms that is "Feiern", peak-time melodic workout "Mystic Voices" and soothing electronic lullabies like "Being In Love". If you have heard Sven playing in the past months, you will recognize both, as they were pivotal moments in almost every set! First up, you have "Mystic Voices", a track that was created during the early stages of the album production with Sven gathering ideas and words to finally record the unmistakable vocals during a hectic tour through India, and Gregor spending days and nights on the other side of the planet in his studio to process the stream of inspiration. When the two finally sat down together in the studio, the track emerged quickly. Some would call the instant vibe that magic that every creative mind is longing to find. "Butoh" is a raw and dark force, influenced by Japanese dance, an art form that deeply touched Sven during his travels on Nippon Island. It´s an otherworldly sounding track, still based in the techno realm but heavily twisted by a long break that introduces Japanese percussion that eventually get topped by the haunting vocals of Cana Hatsushiba.

By the '70s Ibiza had already developed into an international party destination. The fact that the third largest of the Balearic Islands is what it is today -- namely, the absolute benchmark for star DJs par excellence -- cannot be discussed without mention of Sven Väth. Even in the early '80s, more than anyone else in Germany, he stood for the idea that being a DJ could be more than just a profession, a vocation or a purpose in life: it's akin to a magician of the dancefloor, a shaman who conjures up the crowd. As a resident of Dorian Gray -- the legendary club at Frankfurt Airport that was modelled on New York's Studio 54 -- he shaped the image of the DJ like no one else in Germany at the time. Even more influential were his broadcasts on hr3 Clubnight. Without the radio shows that Väth produced there between 1990 and 2004, the seed of techno in Germany would never have been sown to such an extent. With his first club Omen, Sven wrote techno history over ten years. Sven Väth returns with another volume of In The Mix: The Sound Of The 19th Season. To this day, Väth represents the electronic music scene like no other DJ. In the nineties he was mentor and shaman, operating from Frankfurt and introducing us to the world of electronic music. After these crazy, extroverted years, Väth created the Cocoon family as a global platform for he and his colleagues´s activities. Väth has always been for the scene "Baba", which means dad in Hessian dialect. Today he is the "Baba" for a new generation of DJs; music is not about strategizing your niche potential. It does not matter if a tune is approved by the opinion makers. It's about what you feel personally and what you can create with the music in your work as a DJ. Sven Väth tunes into The Sound of the 18th Season on a gentle note with Willow. A little later, the groove becomes more insistent and Madrid's Eduardo De La Calle provides a pulsating bassline and crackling hi-hats. With the daring sing-a-long of Basti Grub, Väth shows his playful side, which is superseded by the nonchalance and coolness of Eddie Fowlkes and singer Na Dee. With Fort Romeau, processed voices spread a trippy, unreal vibe. Moments later, Väth blends a special bassline into the mix, composed by Chez Damier. Ricardo Villalobos's casual, eye-opening grooves appear to be the ideal counterbalance to Damier's unbounded bassline, together forming Villa H2H. Väth senses a hidden relation between Villalobos and John Tejada's improbable, space-grabbing synthesizer sounds. With DJ Slyngshot, the mix becomes more physical and raw. But Väth does not abandon the subtlety of the mix. With Paul, he immerses himself deeper into iridescent, psychedelic dynamics. With Secret Cinema & Egbert, Väth lingers for a moment to reach a new climax in the unlikely mix of sirens and shouts of Peder Mannerfelt & Hodge, which is topped by Rico Puestel with carnivalesque turbulence. Väth plays Barnt's "If She Says She Is A Healer, She Is A Healer", a truly magical number, fusing the mysterious, the remote, and the immediate. In the summer 2016, Sven Väth invited the global electronic music community to the Mediterranean island of Ibiza for the 17th time. Soft, friendly chords and bird chirps from Swedish producer Harald Björk woo the listener to the dancefloor. Väth weaves Ripperton´s upright beats into the track, using reverberations of a graceful melody. Melting the rhythms of reggae and house together, Rhauder absorbs this very special mood of composed ease with a unique groove, featuring the attentive voice of Paul St. Hilaire. After Love Over Entropy's "Sea", Kamran Sadeghi's fascinating synth hooks develop space-grabbing shapes. Alex & Digby translates this colossal sonic drama into a humorous, imaginative orchestra of rustling and chirping sounds. Väth pushes the firm bassline of Traumer into the track, positioning the set firmly to the dancefloor. With the luscious house groove of Omar S, Väth reaches a magical Zen moment. With John FM´s vocal, a charming love song lightens the set up. Eddie Fowlkes translates this sense of longing into a rich fusion jazz, developing a strange poetry. Christopher Rau (C-Rau) contrasts this appreciation for elegance with a determined bass drum. Finally, Väth plays a track of his own, "Electrica Salsa". Remixer Roman Flügel uses futuristic, crystal-clear sounds, simultaneously revealing the modernity of the track. The final track of disc one is by Pantha Du Prince. Levon Vincent does not even need a bass drum for an electrifying piece of house music. With a pulsating bassline and an over-the-top organ solo, Redshape manages to be even more thrilling. Hot City Orchestra and André Galluzzi suspend this tension with an atmospheric techno track. Adam Port merges the diverging energies into a single, pulsating synth pattern. Damian Lazarus and Kölsch release this straightforward flow with soulful melodies. Margot condenses Kölsch's exuberance into a deep euphoria - wobbling synths mutate into Danny Daze's sawing acid track. Kölsch's remix uses a grumbling, doggish synth pattern to anchor all the multifaceted sounds of "Robot". With a gloomy, huge techno track featuring Mr. V, Slam exhibits another level of seriousness. Robert Hood (Floorplan) picks up this tension between techno and soul and pushes it even further. With Bart Skills, Väth reaches his finale. The very special Johannes Heil has siren-like winds flashing up abruptly. Väth immerses himself into the pure, rhythm-driven energy with Emmanuel's heavy, resonant synth tracks. Väth opens with DJ Koze's "XTC," which offers a captivating melody through a cloudy, blurry soundscape. Matthew Dekay offers a poetic starting signal before Väth sets a new tone with "Next Please" by Metaboman, a high-spirited, twisted, funny, electronic polka. Legendary Detroit figures Kevin Saunderson and Carl Craig (feat. Inner City) turn play into drama before Jacob Korn releases the tension with a jazzy, experimental gesture. With Leon Vynehall's reduced gospel, the set reaches a spiritual moment, which Aaaron pushes on with his wonderful, driving "Whatcha Say." With Daniel Bortz's pretty, quiet "Don't Disturb Björn," Väth pauses for a moment. Beloved for his delicate sound textures, John Tejada extends the subdued mood and Mattheis offers penetrating strings with an anthemic quality before Väth brings the groove with Patrick Specke & Daze Maxim's "Battery." For the finale of the first disc, Jacek Sienkiewicz and Ricardo Tobar deliver beautiful, delicate sounds. Väth's second disc takes off with Tim Green's "Eclipse," in which a boastful bassline leads through a charming house groove. Alex Smoke delivers cocky, vigorous acid sounds before Heartthrob breaks the playful energy with an escalation into a furious snare drum thunderstorm. Tim Wright employs a screeching electro bassline with a twinkle in his eye and Deetron drops an overwhelmingly positive, beaming, unforgettable riff. With Bastinov, Väth adds more shades with fascinating violin sounds. Robert Hood uses a brilliant synthesizer to shift things into electrifying soul before Väth makes an utterly surprising U-turn with a song by Swedish cult band The Knife, merging soul with highly sensitive indie pop. Geeeman's voice-modulation recalls Väth's own legendary 1986 track "Electrica Salsa." Gary Beck pulls us into another world with a powerful groove and an epic hook, Pig & Dan condense this mood with "Universal Love," and Stranger's "Warehouse Memoires" brings back recollections of crazed parties in abandoned factories. Väth clears the madness with Alex Bau's hypnotic, flowing grooves. Dimi Angélis sets a soulful final chord with a beautiful riff merging fragile violin sounds and a shrill 8-bit synth, so the set can fade away with a charmingly mellow piece from Petar Dundov.

With Sound of the Fifteenth Season, Sven Väth has left behind the two-part night & day concept of some of the earlier seasons. For the first time, he mixes a continuous, nearly three-hour set. Vath starts off with a delicate house tune from Stimming and the charming, flirtatiously naive voice of Piper Davis. The lovely piano tones captivate the attention while psychedelic moments arouse curiosity. Vath finishes the short opening sequence with another exceptional track: within Alex & Digby's "Kudlak," children pray to a number of saints, and their sincerity and seriousness appeals to us deep in our inside. Then the party begins. The next chapter is devoted to a classic, wonderfully level-headed New York house sound, creating a peaceful haven in Ibiza's restlessness. Leon Vynehall draws us in with gentle chords to the dancefloor, D'Lonely Al adds a euphoric note. Roman Flugel & Simian Mobile Disco set the tone with an impressionistic, playful approach and a strong, emotional bass line. Sebastian Mullaert melds these scattered energies in a wonderful number with Karim Sahraoui adding multifaceted emotions. With his nervous funk Elbee Bad adds physicality and sex appeal. With the fascinating "Rezo" by Marcel Philipp, the set reaches a first climax. The Lauer brothers combine the playful approach of the first tracks with a powerful, driving groove. With David August's epic "Epicurus" the acoustic space gains depth and richness. With DJ Koze's remix of Moderat's "Bad Kingdom," Väth revives the combination of pop and psychedelia and moves into the third chapter. Koze dissolves the anthemic pop song in poetic, trippy sounds. Reboot's bass line spin the dancers around. With his bright, crystal-clear sounds Benjamin Damage nets this turmoil. Dast manages to square the circle: he sounds physical and empathetic, like a Strictly Rhythm-track, yet his explosive energy rather reminds of thriving techno. With Sable Sheep the beats get complicated and dense. Wonderfully straight, the bass line of Gary Beck moves into the track, you feel its razor-sharp, driving force in your fingertips and your toes. "Sand Storm" by Pig & Dan has the dimensions of a natural event. Gusts of sand grains form a massive sound wave that is sublime and a little scary at the same time. Jurek Przezdziecki & Jacek Sienkiewicz turn to a jazzy tonality. Daniel Stefanik counters with a pitch-black sentiment, its elegance being broken by a bizarre creaking and whistling. Transforming this extreme tension in a thrilling acid track, techno innovator Luke Slater creates clarity and defines a target. MMM pull around the helm and Slam grant us a breather with a timeless party track. Sawlin & Subjected break into the scene with futuristic, intricate industrial sounds. At the finale it is Kolsch's turn: the Dane reconciles madness and beauty with an oblique, funny squeak with an amazing vocal a la James Blake.

Sven Väth is co-founder of the Cocoon label, and this is The Sound of the Fourteenth Season. For 14 years, the island Ibiza has been haunted by Sven Väth and his high-spirited tribe. In 2013, Cocoon turned the beloved Amnesia club into a tropical jungle. The jungle seduced with lush colors and intriguing sounds, and the creator of this groove was techno ambassador Sven Väth, who hosted the whole event, using music, dance, performance, pyrotechnics and set design to create an integral experience. As a keepsake of these amazing nights and days, Väth assembled the most memorable tracks into a mix-album. This time, the approach is different. Instead of creating two mixes representing each night and day, he produced one continuous set. As the sun lowers dazzlingly over the Mediterranean Sea, the astonishingly beautiful yet inaccessibly distant chords of "Allowance" by Isolée leave no doubt: everything is said, everything is done. Yet this is only the beginning of the set. The chords of Lusine's "Lucky" translate the thoughtful mood into a celebratory energy. Remixing "Lockdown Party" by The Mole, DJ Sprinkle fuses the joy of a block party with heartfelt deep house chords and harsh cross-fader effects, adding an unlikely twist. Cocoon hero Ricardo Villalobos creates an unlikely encounter between a driving bass line and restrained beats topped by intangible strings. This contradictory tension is dissolved by the sweet piano riff of Marcus Fix's "I Wanna Let You Go." With his dry, tense groove, Losoul bundles the dancefloor's playful energy into one focused kick. With its beseeching vocal, Viktor Shan's "How You Want It" adds new emotional layers to the set. John Heckel's marching grooves and nagging acid sounds drive the night further towards its peak. Adam Port's remix of Daniel Stefanik's "Confidence" is all about the bass line prowling around the dancefloor like a hungry animal. Soy Mustafa's "Bug in the Bassbin" picks up the bassy energy, grounding Carl Craig's classic with the same title in London's contemporary bass music. Losoul returns with another one of his subtle yet powerful grooves. The Third Man picks up the Detroit vibe, turning glistening chords into an ecstatic anthem, calling 2013's most intense moments back to the mind. The second part sets on a slightly different, mellow note. Henrik Schwarz's keen house sounds explore inert, gloomy indie-rock sensibilities, fusing perfectly into Ten Walls' "Gotham." The contrast of its alluring melodies and the heavy bass put the crowds of this season consistently under their spell. The restrained choir of DJ Yellow & Flowers And Sea Creatures has a sacral quality, recalling the sublime voices of medieval music. Matt John's "The Keys" dissolves this withdrawn energy in a playful vibe, his cool voice reminding of the hard-boiled crooning of '80s-era David Bowie. Butch clears these conflicting emotions, creating space for Roman Flügel's unique way of carving out the fun and joy of quirky electronic sounds. Makam releases the raw immediate energy of his emotionally versatile house style. At this moment, wAFF only need very little to finally push the crowd into the abyss of pure ecstasy. Nihad Tule drops fierce electronic sounds barely heard before, and Psyk creates a multilayered sound sculpture full of movement and life. Bursting with energy yet controlled and subtle, Developer's marching electro riff creates an intriguing psychedelic effect. Len Faki and Johannes Heil suggest a certain seriousness. A horn call seems to ask the dancers to persist for a moment and remember the smiles and sweat and everything else that counted in the summer of 2013.

A key figure in Ibiza's electronic awakening is Sven Väth. By merging tracks from Sawlin, P.A.S. and Exercise One, Väth composes a powerful sequence which reaches beyond the vocabulary of peak-time techno. Dissolving into a tribal groove by Silent Servant and the poetic sounds of Ray Kajioka, the first set comes to its end. The second CD starts off on an entirely different note. A sweet house sound is established by Makam. Then comes the allure and grace of Dixon's edit of Romanthony's classical anthem, "The Wanderer," and with &ME's vexing alien sounds, the ideal counterpoint is created. Julien Bracht challenges the dancers with broken beats and longing vocals. The simplicity of Alejandro Mosso's mesmerizing melody finally disarms the crowd. Lawrence's intangible electronic sounds pour down on the dancers like rain. Rhadoo applies the brakes and controversially creates an irresistible motion. Roman Flügel manages to challenge the language of dance music, merging history and the future of house music in the most humorous way possible. The heavy, bassy chords of Four Tet turn into Uner's multi-layered, diaphanous house sound, bursting with sun and light. Gathaspar unifies the diverging energies with a pervasive soundscape. Soy Mustafa and John Tejada have the final word: the dancefloor is taken away by their otherworldly serenity.

The past season was a very special one for Cocoon. Väth won the Ibiza DJ Award as best DJ and the award for the best set of the summer for a fabulous back-to-back set with Luciano. A Cocoon season is not complete without the concluding mix album, on which Väth merges all facets of the club sound of today into a double CD.
